Thanks to Rachel for this evening’s report title.

I tried to start the song off with a new set of lyrics and this is as far as I managed to get I was with Goodgym in the garden late one night. When my eyes beheld a brilliant sight. For our runners grabbed their tools with might. And cleared the garden of all its fright. We did the Mulch….

Firstly, a big welcome to Ellie who joined us for her first Goodgym group run this evening. Give her a cheer and a welcome on her profile.

Once we had all collected our gloves, head torches and introduced ourselves, the walking group of Maxine, Val and Tracey headed off ahead of us whilst we warmed up in the car park with drills before setting off on our short run to St Faiths. We met India on the way and met Catherine at St Faiths as they’d both been held up in traffic.

Tonight we had the task of tidying up the rear garden by clearing up weeds, leaves and also any of the bindweed that had escaped our clutches last time. There were some tasks around the building too which involved cleaning the windows both inside and out. Aimee washed the windows on the outside and did a brilliant job, admitting that she found it very therapeutic and really enjoyed it, just don’t tell her family. Tracey was inside and cleaned the windows inside the building making sure they were shining.

Bind Date

The rest of the group tackled the garden to the rear of the church. Lynn, Rachel and Rosie tackled the area near the seating to remove all the leaves and weeds that were surrounding it. Rachel discovered some form of statue which had a face and no arms (spooky and in time for Halloween).

Ellie, Toni Maura and Jen tackled the bindweed and trimmed any overgrowing hedges that were overgrowing on the path. Jen especially taking on the challenge of trying to remove the bindweed that was out of reach and managed to successfully get it. Angela, Catherine, Judy, Maxine and Val tackled the overgrown path and beds towards the front of the church where the large bag was quickly filled up with all the garden waste and mulch. A decent mountain bike wheel was also found in the garden which has just been thrown over the hedge. Tim and India grabbed litter pickers and started to remove rubbish along with any of the bindweed that they spotted on the way.

Just as we were finishing, the rain started but we managed to get in a fitness session utilising the small wall and area that runs alongside the church before heading back inside to have a lovely cuppa and cake. Another perfect end to a great group run.

Next week we’re lantern making and we also have a weekend of community missions starting on Friday at Naomi House, followed by a beach clean on Saturday and a litter pick on Sunday. If you want to get your milestone deeds before the end of the year, this is a great opportunity.

Thank you for all being great whilst Katie is taking a well-deserved break, especially to Judy who was the teacher’s pet this evening. Gold star awarded. A big thanks to Maura for being the photographer too.
