Ivo, Ivo, it’s off to Catton Grove we go

Monday 14th August 2023

Written by Steven Hitcham

We were blessed with the presence of GoodGym Founder & CEO, Sir Ivo Gormley (well he's a Sir in my opinion), alongside his partner Jess, who both joined us on this evening's session. They said its the first session they have attended together for about 10 years, so we were very privileged.

The task was to do some cutting back at Catton Grove Community Centre, which is always fun as we have no restrictions and can just chop everything back as much as we like, which had overgrown a lot over these last 2 months. Firstly though, we had to jog 2.75km from The Forum to get there, on a warm and muggy evening.

As you can see from the photos, the pile of cuttings was huge and will be chipped so it can be reused (not eaten - different type of chips!).

It was lovely to see Ivo and Jess. I'm not one for brown-nosing or earning brownie points with the boss as thats not my style, but everyone would agree with me that he is so down to earth, a really approachable person and just wanted to get stuck into the task, one of the reasons he started GoodGym, and that really reflects in the GoodGym ethos that he has created.

Getting in the grove of it

Monday 19th June 2023

Written by Steven Hitcham

Tonight we returned to Catton Grove Community Centre to finish the task we started a few weeks ago - clearing the overgrown car park, as well as any weeds growing between the paving slabs.

Linda greeted us with trowels, hoes, rakes and brushes.

It was a very muggy jog from The Forum, but we still had energy in reserve to complete the task at hand.

Next week we're celebrating our 6th birthday!

All ho(e)pe was not lost

Tuesday 9th May 2023

Well what can I say, it rained heavily from about an hour before the task, until about an hour after the task.

As the evening approached, the sign ups were dropping like flies. In fact, I was the only person to meet at The Forum but luckily 3 other hardy GoodGymers came along and went straight to Catton Grove Community Centre.

The car park had lots of overgrown weeds etc around the edges, so we got our hoes at the ready and cleared pretty much all of it, s great job with just 4 people at hand.

Bat-ton Grove

Monday 17th October 2022

Written by Steven Hitcham

A return to Catton Grove Community Centre to recommence the demolition hob we started a couple of weeks ago haha.

The main task was to trim back and tidy the overgrown hedges.

Towards the end of the task, we started to see lots of bats flying around.

Cut down, Cut down, upon your fellow man (and woman)

Monday 3rd October 2022

Written by Steven Hitcham

Visiting Catton Grove Community Centre usually means one thing... there's a lot of cutting back that needs doing, our favourite kind of tasks.

Linda greeted us with lots of tools, that got us drooling over the task ahead.

45 minutes later and the overgrown hedges were looking well trimmed and the pile of cuttings was huge.

We're back again in 2 weeks to finish off the job.

Snipping’ and Drippin’

Monday 4th October 2021

Written by Steven Hitcham

Catton Grove Community Centre is always a task we look forward to as there is normally a lot of overgrown areas that they'd like us to cut back, there's no more satisfying task that GoodGym could help with.

A big welcome to Alina and Matt who were taking part in their first GoodGym experience. Whilst on that subject, the experience started off really well for them until Kevin (aka Michael Fish) said it's going to be a lovely clear evening... within a matter of minutes the heavens opened and the downpour lasted for the duration of the task.

Kevin did make amends for coming up with the pun plus he then ran back to Wroxham after the task!

A thank you to Robert for taking the photos.

We return to Catton Grove Community Centre on Monday for more snippin' but hopefully no drippin' this time.
