The Root of the problem

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 10 GoodGymer's headed to 35th Sea Scouts in Mousehold.

The original plan had been to spray paint tyres that would be used as planters. But with rain falling heavily during the day we decided to focus on the outdoor grounds instead.

The sun came out as we looked out over one of the best views of the city below us. The team spread out to pull up bracken that had sprung up amoungst the wild flowers and fennel. In an hour we had filled 15 bags and left them underneath the sheltered storage area.

It was great to be back here, and we hope to return when the venue is next available.

Happy Choppers

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 9 GoodGymer's ran or cycled 4km to support St Matthew's Church. It was our first visit here, and the route included a jog up Gas Hill!

Once we arrived Reverend Patrick showed us the tools and asked if there were any 'Happy choppers'? Which at GoodGym the answer is always yes!

He directed us to the overgrown areas of the car park, and the borders in front of the church, and we got to work clearing weeds and brambles so that the entrance signs could be seen more clearly.

Also inside the church an Easter display needed dismantling, including a number of large stones to be carrier back into the garden. In no time at all, both tasks were completed with a sense of satisfaction comparing the before and after photos... We were also offered refreshments of tea & biscuits!

Shout outs to Francesca for completing her 10th task, and Emily reaching 100 Good Deeds!! Marvelous work everyone.

Blooming Marvellous Bunch

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 5 GoodGymers returned to Catton Grove Community Centre.

We were tasked with planting various types of bulbs in the flower beds, so 4 of us got to work digging and planting, and even spaced some of the bulbs into a pretty “G” for “GoodGym” shape in the soil!

Another member removed moss and weeds from the patio outside the community centre entrance to freshen it up a bit.

The bulbs we planted last year had already bloomed and looked beautiful, so it will be great to return to see what tonight’s bulbs look like once they are in bloom too.

Bramblenators 2: Judgement Day

Norwich Report written by Woody

A decidedly sunny day, but with some seriously cold gusts, the GG team descended on Valpy Avenue Allotments to tackle some serious brambles. Armed with loppers and rakes the brambles did not stand a chance and we made some serious progress, making a previously overgrown plot habitable again for a lucky allotmenteer.

Afterwards refreshments were served which were very welcome to the team, some admiring a pond that was thriving with tadpoles. Hopefully another visit will occur in the future and more plots can be made ready for use.
