Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jo Kitching
A sunny but yet windy Wednesday evening welcomed 5 of us to clear up litter near the RNLI area in Southsea. We all had arrived in the warm sun and soon realised that the wind soon whips up and it was pretty cold. We initially didn’t think there was much rubbish but we were soon proved wrong once we started. It was great to see Richard back again and he soon set to work trying to wrestle the rubbish into a bag that was blowing so hard in the wind that each time something went in, something else blew out. Louisa, Judy, Sinéad and Jo headed onto the shore line and also took on the challenge of trying to fill our bags without losing anything else. We all filled our bags with a lot of cable ties, canisters, bits of plastic, fishing wire, plastic wrappers and other general rubbish collected near the boats on the shore. It’s not sure whether a lot of this was washed in with the tide or whether a lot of it comes from people maintaining the boats and rubbish being blown around. This is definitely a place that gets a lot of rubbish and we will head back there again. Hopefully when it’s a little warmer.
Apologies for the blurred selfie photo. I'm blaming technology.
