Finished my rubbish weekend with a sunny but interesting afternoon in Kingston rec. Contributing to Greenpeace Big Plastic Count! Joined by Stephen MP, the deputy mayoress and her daughter Darcy (future goodgymmer in the making) .
We found various items of clothing including some fancy FCUK pants. Lots of balloons, sweet wrappers, cigarette butts, vapes, condom, tampons and Julie found a meat cleaver in a bush (which was reported to 101).
We managed to collect a lot within an hour! We'll done GG ninja turtles!
Sadly there was lots of litter on Tipner Beach. GG managed to collect a lot in an hour.
Abby found a slipper, a glove, a cuttlefish and an oyster. Whereas I found polyester and a tampon.
P.S. I'm terrible in and taking photos.
We will be getting the garden ready for a Jubilee party over the long weekend.
Expect weeding and pruning and probably a bit of decoration too!
Please note the meeting point is Hilsea Lido for a 1.6 mile jog/run/cycle up to the garden OR you can meet us there at 6pm: St Michael's Church, Hempsted Road, PO6 4AS
Welcome the return of Parkrun by volunteering with Eastney Junior Parkrun!
Eastney Junior Parkrun is a 2k run every Sunday at 9am in Bransbury Park for 4 to 10 year olds.
While they always need volunteers, we've offered to bring the Goodgym good vibes once a month. Should be really fun cheering the kids on. All the details of the event here: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/eastney-juniors/
We'll need to be there ready for 8.30am by the café. If you want do (or avoid) any particular volunteering role, leave a comment below or message me. They are keen for extra marshals and tailwalker(s) in particular.
This is a special double volunteering points opportunity!! Goodgym and Parkrun if you are registered - dust off that barcode!
No doubt there will be coffee and chat opportunities afterwards :-)
Make sure you sign up and I'll let them how many of us can make it the week before.
We need Marshalls to work with our Parade Team for the Portsmouth Pride Parade to ensure the safety of our hundreds of participants at road crossings and key points in our parade.
We'll all be meeting as a Parade Team at 9.15 am on Saturday 11th June on Southsea Common at The Portsmouth Pride Stall which will be identifiable with the giant flagpoles with rainbow flags (roughly opposite the rowing club). From there we'll walk the route in reverse and give a full briefing to the volunteers, volunteers will help to coordinate our registration at the starting point before heading to their marshall points for the parade. Everyone will be finished and back at the original meeting point by 12.30/1pm at the latest.
Doing a litter pick at Kingston Rec as part of the Greenpeace Big Plastic Count. Stephen Morgan MP is planning on popping by too.
In true GoodGym style, we had mid party good deed.
While Mel, Tony and I did the washing up (with a very questionable tea towel), everyone else got out into the sunshine and undertook a litter pick around the park.
Extra marks to Dr Jo, Rosie and Maxine for doing this while carrying babies (in both senses of the word).
Recycling was collected and kept to be put into Vicki and John's green bin. The usual suspects of wrappers, packets and cigarettes were found plus a sad purple deflated ball and a tin of butane gas (useful for camping!).
Once the good deeds were completed, we reconvened for Mel's quiz.
Happy 4th birthday to us!
We took over Milton Village Hall to celebrate 4 years of GoodGym Portsmouth.
We welcomed the next generation of GoodGymers, we ate lots of food and Mel gave our brains a workout with a quiz. Rachel got her new T-Shirt and we all went home with sugar highs!!
A pukka afternoon sorting donations at NH Charity (Chazza 😉) Shop.
Harry started on baby clothes whilst Sinead sorted some odd bags and then assisted Harry. Oh the fun of hanging baby clothes... one bag of baby clothes is a mission in itself! They did an awesome job.
Poor Sweep has been unloved in the back room for months, he was made up when Harry adopted him 😊
Sinead found the most boring fancy dress costume ever.... so dull I can't even remember what it was supposed to be....
Wilson sorted donations that kept coming in during the afternoon (Thankyou Jen and Rachel 😊)
