Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Sat 17 Apr
Report written by Rachel Cutler

What a PERFECT day for our 2021 return to the Lido!! Lots blue sky and a range of new, enthusiastic volunteers (in addition to Goodgym) came to help the Lido get ready to reopen.

We had a preview of our task list for the weeks ahead and kicked off the shifting and cleaning of some old swing changing room doors, ready to be sanded and repainted for the next stage of their transformation.

The smaller doors had to be extracted from the rather packed 'mini gloom room' (official name). They were carried out into the sunshine through a combination of lifting, wheeling and 'rolling' (as much as you can roll a rectangle) - the latter proving to be the winner!

We had fun getting the grime off car wash style with a hose, sponges and soapy buckets without soaking each other / flooding the area too much.. 15 mostly clean doors (both sides! ) are now ready to go!

Good times in good company as always.

Beach clean near RNLI

Wed 21 Apr 18:15 pm
RNLI Lifeboat Station, Ferry Road, Eastney, PO4 9LY
Stop rubbish polluting our sea

Keeping up with our Wednesday evening Community Mission our next litter pick is at the RNLI on Ferry Road, Southsea. After walking around the beach at low tide there is a fair bit of rubbish still around for us to collect. Depending on the tide times we may be able to get further down the beach to retrieve more litter.

Let me know if you need a litter picker so I can bring what is needed

Meet at RNLI on Ferry Road.

All Saints Church Gardening

Sat 15 May 10:50 am
All Saints Church, 334 Commercial Road, Portsmouth, PO1 4BT
Helping Asylum Seekers improve language skills and integrate.

Gardening at All Saints Church. GoodGym team to work with asylum seekers to improve the garden at the church.

Action Asylum ( Portsmouth City of Sanctuary) is finding community tasks to help asylum seekers improve language skills and integrate with the community.

Unfortunately, as this project is just getting off the ground, they currently do not have their own tools. So anything you can bring along would be appreciated, gloves as a minimum.

Anita the project leader will meet you at the start of the task to chat to you about what needs doing.
