We can't be-leaflet how quick we completed this task!

Sat 1 May
Report written by Emily

Jonathan, Melanie, Penny and I met Rosie at the Grapes Hill Community Garden to pick up leaflets to drop round to the local residents. We managed to (mostly!) dodge the rain, and got lots of leaflets delivered to people letting them know about the webinars the garden are running.

The community garden is such a great place for local residents and I hope we'll be able to go back to help them soon!

Play your cards right

Mon 19 Apr
Report written by Steven Hitcham

It was great to see a couple of faces I hadn’t seen for several months and also a big welcome to Matt who was taking part in his first GoodGym good deed.

We split into three groups, with a set of streets allocated to each group. Stephen and Matt had the longest route, myself and Rory did the shortest one (followed by fish and chips) and Elizabeth, Penny, Mark, Andy and Liz did the other route.

It was a lovely sunny evening and group to be outside.

We made big in roads this evening and at getting there with the postcards.

Fine City Neighbours postcard delivery - Norwich Covid Response

Mon 19 Apr 17:30 pm
The Forum, Millennium Plain, Norwich, NR2 1TF
It will help inspire them to connect with their neighbours and understand where they can access support and inspiration to do so.

GoodGym Norwich have teamed up with the Fine City Neighbours project and we have 20,000 postcards that need delivering to people's homes.

These tasks will take place Monday and Wednesday evenings and we are now focusing on the Central Norwich area.

You'll collect postcards from Hitch or a Task Force member outside The Forum anytime between 5.30-6pm, where you'll be allocated a street or number of streets from our list and then run/walk/cycle to that location to deliver postcards through people's letterboxes.

It shouldn't take no more than 1 hour from the time you set off to deliver the postcards allocated to you. Once you've delivered them you can go straight home, you don't need to return to The Forum.

There should be no need to make contact with people in their homes, but if someone does open their door while you are making a delivery, remember to maintain a 2m distance while speaking with them.

This task should be done within the rule of 6, while keeping 2m apart as per government advice. You'll be grouped upon arrival at The Forum.

We recommend you wear some form of high-vis clothing.

Flyer Drop and Litter Pick around Grapes Hill Community Garden

Sat 1 May 10:30 am
12 Valentines Street, Norwich, NR2 4BA
Help local residents find out about volunteering gardening sessions and keep the area looking well maintained

Grapes Hill Community Garden have asked us to do a flyer drop to let local residents know about its volunteering gardening sessions and a litter pick to tidy up the area. Hopefully keeping the area looking well-maintained will deter people from dropping litter in the future.

They will have bags, gloves and litter pickers available but you may prefer to bring your own gloves.

I wish it CARD be Christmas every day

Fri 18 Dec
Report written by Steven Hitcham

It's been an extremely difficult Xmas for everyone this. No more so than for older people in Care Homes who have been unable to see their families for the last 9 months. It really is heartbreaking.

That's why we wanted to do something for some of the care homes/housing with care we've visited in the past, as we couldn't visit them in person this year to play games or sing carols. Instead, we sent the residents at Redmayne View a Xmas Card, some of which were made by our members.

It was great to see so many GoodGymers get involved with this task, some of who were from other GoodGym areas across the UK.

These tasks have brought a smile to everyone's face, Merry Christmas to all of you.

We CARD get enough of this Christmas spirit

That's why we wanted to do something for some of the care homes/housing with care we've visited in the past, as we couldn't visit them in person this year to play games or sing carols. Instead, we sent the residents at Springdale a Xmas Card, some of which were made by our members.

It was great to see so many GoodGymers get involved with this task, some of who were from other GoodGym areas across the UK. Emma made a card for Vera, who is 107 year's old!

These tasks have brought a smile to everyone's face, Merry Christmas to all of you.

Send a Xmas Card to a resident @ Redmayne View Care Home

Fri 18 Dec 16:30 pm
Mountbatten Drive, Sprowston, Norwich, NR6 7PX
Make an older person smile this Xmas

The residents at Redmayne View have become very isolated during this pandemic, lets make them smile by sending them a Xmas Card.

There are 29 residents that would like a Xmas Card sent to them so we need 29 people to complete this Community Mission.

You can either email an electronic card to me at steven@goodgym.org or I can meet you outside The Forum between 3.30-4pm on Friday 18th December to collect it. Alternatively you could deliver/post directly to Redmayne View, please let me know if you do this.

Once you've signed up, I will email you the name of the person you will be making/sending a Xmas Card for, and then provide the address details on the same email. I’ll do this once everyone has signed up so I can send one email before the end of the week.
