I'm the warm snug Comfort of our dwellings little Goodgym elves made, wrote, coloured and created Christmas cards and decorations to be sent to local nursing home residents by the Hive. We then ran, walked, skipped and possibly elvishly flew them to the Hive to distribute.
The Hive Portsmouth have asked us to create Christmas cards for residents at 3 local care homes and make Christmas decoration for them to put up in their rooms. This is a great task for those who want to get the whole family involved in crafting or if you just want to add a few extra cards to your Christmas card list. Once you have signed up send me a message and I can send you a list of names for your cards. You can do as many or as few as you like! All cards have to be dropped off at Portsmouth Central Library by Monday 6th December - I can deliver them if you want to get them to me earlier than this.
Emma has helped keep other people motivated, Emma has noticed what others have done and cheered 10 people. We doff our caps to you Emma.
What an awesome recycling team we had, collecting the bottles was not an easy task this year.... Colas had put out stooopid recycling bins, only labelled on one side.... so they didnt work and trying to pull bottles out of the big bins was hard work.
The GoodGym crew as always gave it their best shot, it was great to meet and have Emma and Joanne on board, they walked all the way to Canoe Lake collecting discarded bottles!!!! Harry bought their buddy along, they made a great job of collecting all the bottles as runners crossed the start line. Sinéad was epic and did the double (two days of listening to me moan on....thankyou Sinead!). Lynn and Catherine teamed up - it was lovely to catch up with them when we all met back in the Marquee for lunch 😊. Rosie and India also had to put up with me worrying/moaning about the task in hand..... but they were super supportive and kind and lovely and happily collected as many bottles as they could.
The great thing about the day was that it felt like all of GG Portsmouth were out, either running, cheering or recycling and somehow we all managed to see each other, a lovely GG family event.
All the usual suspects were picked up with plenty in the recycling bag (now decanted into Tony's dad's green bin and the Morrison's recycling bin). Jo & Emma ticked off the sock from the bingo card and I had just been telling them about finding glasses when Tony found a pair by the dog bin....
We made the decision to go back via the car park off Burrfields Rd where we found a whole bag of shopping dumped as well as numerous cups and wrappers from the local drive throughs.
4 bags filled by 4 people.... That's an impressive hour's work. Good public service by community minded folk!
GSR Recycling Team - saving the planet one bottle at a time!
Arrive at the Castle for 9am - go though the Castle entrance and see the Marquee on the left. Come and find me! Grab your free volunteers t-shirt (hopefully we have enough and in the right sizes - its a bit of a gamble) Grab a green recycling bib Grab a buddy or two, some bin bags and a litter picker (bring gloves) Go collect as many plastic bottles as you can!!!! Once you bag is full take them to the Colas collection point Go collect more bottles Have a rest in the Castle Marquee as and when you need to (tea and coffee available)~ If you are still with us at lunchtime then grab your free lunch Go home when you have had enough!
It's the first Sunday of the month which means it's Great Salterns litter pick time!
We will meet in the car park off Tangier Road, just past Stanley Ave.
Emma is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.
