Report written by Sarah Moore (She/her )
With our dear Gramps on a well-deserved holiday this week it was up to Sarah to lead today's run to Westbury Banks. Meeting Nurjehan, Sam, Dave, Kapil and Charlie at our new base in Blue House Yard, she took a quick poll as to how long the group wanted the run to be. What with the task being so close to base the group decided on the scenic route. The group ran 4k through Lordship Rec before meeting Geraldine, Louise and Latoya at Westbury Banks Nature Reserve.
It's worth mentioning that most of the group ran the Big Half on Sunday, with it being Charlie's and Geraldine's first half marathon. Kapil also got a PB. Well done team!
Oasis of calm that Westbury Banks is, it runs next to a major road and some people appear to have mistaken its beauty for a rubbish dump. The first part of any task there must therefore be a litter pick . This the team achieved in record time before looking to resident nature expert Charlie for instruction.
The litter pick of the paths had revealed some weeds along their edges, particularly on the steps up to the entrance. Soon these were cleared. Weeds were put on the compost heap, rubbish was lined up for Veolia to collect, and there was just time to reflect on a job well done before we parted.
"The Westbury Banks Nature Reserve is a community lead project to transform derelict land into a nature reserve. All work on the site is on a voluntary basis and the management of the site is done free of charge! There are big plans to install a storage unit for the equipment, a mural, a log path with wood chipping, a pond for amphibious for wildlife and a grand insect hotel
