A massive well done to all tonight's runners for braving the cold conditions!
Tonight we had no new runners to welcome but we did meet a new prop in the form of the crazy celebration cap. I think I styled it out wearing it to celebrate 50 good deeds, who will be next to model this high fashion item? We also celebrated this milestone and the January birthday girls (Rachel & Angela) with a selection of cakes after our run.
The walking group led by Jo headed out first while the runners did a few laps of the area beside the car park to try and get warm followed by some lovely drills to help our running efficiency (and make us look a little silly!) - short steps and stiff leg runs. We met up at St Faiths ready for helping litter pick and cut back more in the garden now the hedges have been completely cut back. Wow, we had some "interesting" finds. Bolt croppers, a cut bike lock (definitely connected!), sharps, many many drinks cans, plastic, poo in bags (who does that?), a nice coat (rescued for washing and using). Sam found a bone and then a dead fox 😥 poor thing. In true GG Portsmouth tradition Jo found some pants.... quite a few pairs in fact! We managed to fill about 5 bags with rubbish from quite a small area, impressive work rate!
Tracey and Laura also helped with some indoor tasks which included dismantling the crib display. The quote of the night was heard as the Vicar declared:
don't drop Jesus
A lesson to remember for sure.
The lovely team at St Faiths then helped us defrost our frozen fingers by providing us with tea and biscuits. It was lovely and warm in their community area and we didn't really want to leave but luckily we took Tony's quick housing estate short cut and were back in Fratton in no time.
There's now one more chance to add to the good deeds for January - joining Judy and I at Hilsea for a litter pick tomorrow. Sign up here.
There's no February challenge for good deeds so it's all about increasing your own total to get you closer to the celebratory cap / black T-shirt and also adding to our total here in Portsmouth... will we make it to 1000 good deeds by our first birthday in May? It's definitely possible. We have a beach clean on Saturday and are off to a new task location next week.... Portsmouth Deaf Centre.
See you all at a good deed soon!
We are a church in the heart of our local community. We have regular services and are home to a number of community events. We have a small garden with shrubs/plants around the building that demand a lot of time and attention
