Thorlands Garden
Thorlands Gardens is a food growing club based on an east Lambeth housing estate, in Camberwell. There was a shared vision to move forward with a zero miles food project on unused and unloved brownfield spaces. There was an understanding that residents of all ages could volunteer simply for the value that experience gives to individual wellbeing. There is also the added bonus of sharing the fruits of the labour, which in this case is healthy produce, such as vegetables, salads, herbs, and edible flowers.

It's Wednesday night and we're doing it right...it's also our group run night!

Back to Thorlands! It's our monthly visit to this hidden gem and Simon will be eagerly awaiting our arrival to continue with the Thorlands community garden project. We'll be continuing in the "Forest" garden, we could be:

  • Putting down woodchip for the "Forest" path
  • Potting plants in the "Walled" garden
  • Planting saplings or shrubs in the "Forest" garden
  • Digging up acanthus and bindweed roots in all gardens
  • Mulching with cardboard and semi-composted material
  • Adding/managing the compost pile
  • Shaping shrub canopies

New to GoodGym Southwark?

Not to worry, it can be daunting coming to your first group run, but we are so welcoming whether you're just starting out as a runner or have been running for years. We welcome all!

Here's the important information - the "Where, When and What":

๐Ÿ“ We meet at Old Spike Peckham between 18:30-18:45. You can also meet us at the task: Thor Lands Gardens, Elsinore House, Denmark Road, London, SE5 9EJ at 19:15.

โŒš 18:30-18:45 (leaving at 18:45 latest). If meeting at task, be there for 19:15. We will be back in Peckham by 20:30 (latest).

โœ… There will be access to Old Spike Roastery, so you can drop your bags and use their toilets before we head out.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ After a quick warm-up, we run together as a group. If there are loads of us, there will be a back marker to ensure no one is left behind. On this run, we will be running 3k each way. Running at a medium pace to get to the task in 20 minutes. We will spend 45-50 minutes doing the tasks mentioned above (or as much as we can) before running back to finish by 20:30.

Advisable: Bring ๐Ÿงค gardening gloves.

Options are available to run between 3km and 6km in total

Remember that we run to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you can't run for more than 15mins without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us.

There's space to change and leave bags and toilets. We're not planning to do anything purposefully dangerous, but GoodGym takes no responsibility for your safety during group runs, you participate at your own risk. Participants accept full responsibility for items stored at Old Spike Roastery, and Old Spike Roastery and GoodGym will not be held liable for any losses or damages.
