It all makes fence now

Cardiff Report written by Michael

What a wonderful day full of sunshine we had, surely the evening run would be glorious......

Not a CHANCE

And yet, still 5 plucky volunteers got together at Sport Wales, ready to take to the windy wet streets of Cardiff once more on our Tuesday task run. Thankfully, it wasn't too far tonight, just a 2km run to the organisation that we were helping - Cwtch Together.

Cwtch together is a disability play project held in the centre of Cardiff which promotes inclusive play and socialisation for disabled children and their families.

Our task tonight was to help move the rather large metal fence panels and some additional bits from the back of the building over against a wall, where they will later be secured with chains. This would then allow clearer access to the back space that we have been helping to clear now for a few months.

As we arrived we were greeted by the ever lovely Sarah (after briefly scaring her first - sorry about that), we had a lovely brief catch up and then set to work. The rain must have known that we were doing good as it almost stopped as we set to our tasks, before being nothing more than a drizzle. 30 minutes and the task was of course complete - we were not running in this rain to not finish the task!

We made our way inside for a moment, another quick chat and a group photo - both for us and for the Cwtch facebook account. Finally run - to the bus stop, where we all got on our buses to make our way home. I don't know about the rest of you but I was straight in a warm shower and then my pjs.

Until Next time, and hopefully dryer weather.

Speed Dating at the foodbank

Cardiff Report written by Michael

15 goodgymers, 2 routes, 28kg of donations, 11 crates of sorting. What a Tuesday!

Tonights task was at the Foodbank warehouse in Cardiff, a little bit further away than our usual routes. We offered out two routes, one as usual from outside the wonderful Sport Wales which would be 7km in total, and a shorter option from the City Centre equaling 5km in total.

Group 1 - led by Michael met at 18:15 ready to head out right on time (18:30) in order to get to the task. Nathan, Adam, Llion, Marie, Nadine, Gemma, Dylan and Michael made their way that extra distance and on top of that bringing donations for the foodbank too.

Group 2 - led by Darren had an extra bit of time for their meet and didn't leave until 18:35 so made use of this time with a foodbank workout. Su, Martin, Andrew, Imy, Dylan and Darren got physical with their tins!

Group 1 & 2 soon met up and finally got to the task on time, once there we met up with Michelle and the group were all together. We went into the foodbank and received a quick tour of the building. We put our donations out and had them weighed before heading over for our next good deed of sorting. We were put at our tables where we were to pick up a crate, write the best before date on the items in marker and then pop them into the correct storage crate. It was a little like a backward supermarket sweep...

As we had run out of tables, 5 remaining goodgymers were over in the storage area putting items into date order.

Half an hour later and we were ready to head back, we had stayed a little later as it was a very worthwhile task. We had also found our newest mascot,

Milky Joe

Now for a social in the City as we join up with some additional goodgymers for the celebration of a successful citizenship application.

Bottoms UP

Cardiff Report written by Michael

Tonight's task was all about rubber bottoms, have I got your attention?

Five goodgymers managed to escape the half term duties and were ready to get active and do some good in Cardiff.

Croeso

Our newest member joined us for their first time tonight, and we are extremely happy to have you. Welcome, Gemma, we hope that you enjoy the task. We also welcomed back for their second time, Nadine, good to see you back again. They joined Michael and made their way out for a short run to the task, whilst Michelle and Estelle were our cyclists joining us there for the 7pm start.

Legs in the air

What? We met Julian, our task organiser at the Church building and the Vicar Edward who told us all about his recent 15-mile run - what a legend.

Our task was to put new protectors on the tables and chairs in the hall - or the better explanation, new rubber bottoms on all the legs. And, we would have to work around the race night event that was being set up.

Quick as a flash we got to work in the smaller space so that we could get out of the way for the event to start, thankfully there weren't too many chairs & tables to do in the first room. As we made our way into the main hall it dawned on us, we had 90 chairs to do - that's 360 legs!

Oh my!

The quickest way seemed to be laying them on the floor, legs in the air so that Julian and Michael could quickly remove the old worn-down feet ready for the new rubber bottoms. We soon scuttled along the floor, rubber bottoms bouncing all around. As the legs were done, the chairs were flipped back onto all fours and neatly stacked along the walls of the hall.

Soon we were done, and it was time to make our way back to Sport Wales to finish off our run, at least for the runners. The cyclists made their way home, all lit up as we said our farewells.

Next week sees us helping at the local foodbank, there are multiple options for this on the website, have a look and get signed up. Any questions just ask the Area Activator at the bottom of the sign up page.
