15 Month Streak
Tue 31st Jan at 6:15pm
On the last Tuesday of January, and bidding farewell to the difficult month Goodgym Cardiff got together for a night of fun, run and BUN - Burger Bun.
15 gymers were ready for the challenge, with new faces to greet.
You are both welcome back to the Cardiff division anytime
Also joining us for their first time was Dylan, welcome to the clan.
Goodgym were welcomed as ever by Kathie and made our way to the back gardens ready to cut back overgrowth and litter pick the area. But wait, the edge of the gardens has some friends popping up......as feet where everywhere we all shouted out to try to save the bulbs.
We split into teams to tackle the various jobs this evening, sweeping up the moss that had fallen from the roof around the front of the building, cutting the brambles that were appearing underneath the tree, cutting off come ash stems that were coming out of the root stock of another tree. Two groups in on fence duties, cutting back any of the plants that were encroaching onto the public path areas and then a general litter pick of the grounds.
Busy as bees our 30 minutes were soon up and it was all looking rather lovely.
On our way back we entered the realm of strange conversations - as usual when Michael is around - tonight's topic was......
During the 1950s a virulent fungal pathogen wiped out the Gros Michel variety of banana, which was sweeter than our variety today. The Cavendish stepped into the space left by the disease, which is likely the banana that you eat today.
Imagine if the same thing happened now..... What would be in our bowls of cereal and our smoothies?
Just us next week and see what the conversation will be!!!
Now to celebrate the end of January, we all made our way for a social. Burger deals and a drink to see the night off.

Our second trip to Cwtch Together, and determination tonight to finish off clearing the space. No time to stand around chatting, lets get straight to it!
We arrived a little earlier tonight, giving us some additional clearing time. It was all hands on deck, even Michael joined in for a bit of clearing. Along the way we found some more hidden treasures, guttering, some large pieces of Metal and ball after ball after ball.
Time for a quick kick about.....
Now back to WORK.
Pushing the time limit slightly, we made it and managed to clear the entire area.
Tue 10th Jan at 6:15pm
We made our way back to our friends at Cwtch Together, New Year and New Area to deal with. Once there, the gang had a rest and a chat whilst Michal and Sarah made there way around to the 'Secret Garden'......and secret it most certainly was.
Down past the sheds that we had built some years earlier, round the back of the building until we were suddenly in an overgrown jungle.
After a quick look around, Michael made their way back to call the team over - tools in hand it was time to attack the brambles, filling bags as we went along. We found a canoe, some guttering and lost a light!
Time's up, and there was only one place to have our group photo, as we admired the work done in just half an hour. A nice jog / run back to our starting point and we were finished for another Tuesday evening.

Michelle Bacon done 50 good deeds and got their black t-shirt
The next time you see Michelle, they might be wearing black instead of red. They've completed 50 good deeds with GoodGym and have earnt their black t-shirt. Give them a nod when you next see them.

Another new task for the Cardiff Goodgym group this Winter, as we take the challenge and write 'Card's for Care Homes'. Michael had brought along plenty of Charity cards that supported;
Bupa care homes had asked for the public to write a Christmas Card and send it in this year to the staff and residents, so we decided to take on the task. Changing the goodgym model tonight, we took to the streets from our meeting point to run a 4km route created by Michael before stopping off at a local night cafe where we could get warm and comfortable, grab a hot drink and cake (optional), and start writing in our Charity cards.
9 goodgymers were ready for this task, with Michelle unable to run and meeting us at the cafe whilst the rest of us took to the streets to get in some exercise. It was a lovely run around the quieter streets that Michael could think of, over the Smart bridge and then around the bay out of the way of the City Centre.
After a nice 4km it was a welcome warmth in The Little Man Coffee Shop and delicious cake and coffee. Michael put out the cards and pens (only just bought as they may have been forgotten - Whoops) ready for the writing to begin. After discussions about what to write, and even some calligraphy practising, we began.
Let's Get Scribbling
As the time went on Andrew and Marie started to get a bit adventurous with some added pictures in the cards, and this was soon followed by Martin. Whilst Michelle was busy online trying to make each card message individual (at least from them).
54 cards later and it was time to pack up, carefully, and head out to the Christmas Market.
This is one that I am sure will make an appearance again next year.
