Iced Green Tee

Wednesday 1st September 2021

Written by Euclides Montes

9 hardy Goodgymmers embraced the chilly weather as they ran to help the wonderful T On The Green - dear friends of ours who have had a tough week.

With A Little Help From Our Friends

In what was frankly a rather chilly summer night, our 9 Goodgymmers made their way to Bruce Castle Park after we heard that the grounds of the wonderful community cafe T On The Green had been vandalised.

Carol from T welcomed us with a story that made us all rather frustrated: tales of stolen clocks, turned over tables, vandalised BBQ area... Grrr.

We used this frustration the only way we know how: by making a couple of jokes and throwing ourselves at the task with gusto.

Carol asked us to spruce up all the planting boxes by giving them a lick of green paint.

We divided into two competing groups: Julie, Kapil, Nurjehan, and Sam at the back dealt with some boxes that, according to Carol, had been in the grounds of Bruce Castle Park from antediluvian times. Latoya, Geraldine, Charlie, and GGCamden daytripper Emily took on the big four boxes at the front.

I'm not going to say the competition wasn't in good spirits but a certain group tried to force my hand by awarding themselves a trophy halfway through the task. Not to be outdone, the other group serenaded me with nostalgic tales of GGHaringey days gone and promises of minty cocktails. One team lost points for messy paint work, and the other team got a bit distracted smelling the mint but in the end I declared a well-fought draw.

We took some photos and then ran back to HQ, but not before promising to Carol that we'd be back.

That's what friends are for, after all. If you can, feel free to send a few pennies their way here to help them cover the costs the scoundrel's handiwork has incurred.

Femi at Haringey Foodbank needs help on Saturday, sign up here if you can. And next week's task is still not 100% confirmed but you can still sign up here.

Mint Condition

Wednesday 26th August 2020

Written by Euclides Montes

It was a feeling of deja brew for fourtean goodgymmers last night as we visited the lovely T On The Green for a good ol' fashioned GGH "group run".

Our Cup Runneth Over

Last night we welcomed Sharon, Don, Sylvester, and Katy for their first ever Goodgym task and they were absolute pros. Kudos their way, s'il vous plait.

Also a shout out for Kapil. Julia, Louise, Geraldine, and Sharon who met up with me for a 4k run down the scenic White Hart Lane/Tottenham Cemetery route to the task. Bliss!

High Tea In The Park

It was fifty shades of earl grey for GGH last night as we embraced with both arms the opportunitea to visit the T On The Green Cafe in Bruce Castle Park.

Carol from T On The Green had an assortment of tasks and tools for us but the general brief of the evening was "look around and make the place tidy" and that's what we did.

Two groups of litter pickers set to work across the Green; three sub-teams tackled the planters we painted on our last visit and now needed a good weeding; never ones to chai away from hard graft, Nurjehan and Kapil got on their knees and cleared the tiles on the ramp leading up to the cafe from months-worth of slippery moss; and yet another team got on with assembling a flat pack sand pit.

The place was brewing with hard graft and minttea aroma as the teams weeded around the peppermint.

After about an hour, I had to call time on our evening but not before we posed for some pictures and a bit of elbow-bumping action.

We said our goodbyes and some of us even found the time for a little socially-distanced dinner afterwards.

Boom!

Back next when we'll be visiting the Library Garden on Tuesday, Elizabeth Place and Cranwood Homeless Shelter on Wednesday. Join us!

Green fingered to a T!

Wednesday 10th July 2019

Written by Euclides Montes

Scenes! Scenes were had as 16 (and a half!) runners descended upon the grounds of T On The Green in Bruce Castle Park, having run a cool 4k, and in full action mode set out to give them a hand to make the site even more beautiful.

We painted. We panted. We scrubbed. We weeded. We wash-blasted. We littered picked. We secured fences. Scenes!

Shout-out Central!

GoodGym Haringey welcomed Keir, Karen, and Rafael who were joining us for their first ever GoodGym run. Give them some love. Also Sophie and Natalie joined for their first run in a while and they looked like they were never away. Stars. Finally big love for Rhiannon who's the first person to ever reply to my 'Might you be pregnant?' question with a massive yes. She was awesome, worked for 2, and even offered to do modified burpees. Boom!

Just water for the T-totals

I'm not going to complain about the weather but it was muggy out there this eve.

We ran the long way to T On The Green and were very pleased to be welcomed with open arms and nice, cold water by Carol, the task owner at T On The Green.

She handed us a multitude of tasks and our 16.5 inTrepid runners threw themselves at it. We painted some planting boxes at lightning speed, weeded some recently peebled areas with aplomb, secured a fence that earlier this very day caused a kiddie to fall over, we littered-picked the grounds, we smartened up the BBQ area, and we wash-blasted the entry ramp. All in 45 minutes. Pats on the back all around.

Back at base camp we did some stretches, and then headed home still slightly light-headed after such a dizzying performance.

Next week we're visiting our friends at Westbury Banks Nature Reserve - come and join us!

Also, please remember to check out our community mission at Chestnut Park on the 20th of July and sign up if interested.

Peace!
