The Inaugural Norfolk Marathon

Sunday 28th April

Written by Woody

A cold and wet day of marshalling for the Good Gymers helping out at the inaugural Norfolk Marathon didn't dampen the spirits for an excellent event.

Good Gymers were largely in seperate places but travelled together so they could go on some rides in the park before the race commenced.

It remained wet and windy throughout the day but the marathoners were in good spirits and were very happy and thankful for the support and directions along the course.

A humungous shout out to Hitch and the EPIC Norfolk team for organising this event, it was seen on the faces of so many runners how much it meant to them to take part and the impact it has on fundraising for so many charities makes events like this ever so important in any community, here's to many more years of the Norfolk Marathon!

Autumn delay

Sunday 4th February

Written by Elizabeth H

The Autumn Blickling half should have taken place in October but due to flooding was deferred until today! Wow the weather was perfect today thank goodness & almost 800 runners were excited to. I was on Bib allocation & was surprised how many runners still found their original bib allocation but for those lost it’s easy to allocate a new one. After the start I joined Shelley unloading bags from the van into Town Hall for collection after the race, not an easy job putting bags in number order! Then it was all hands on deck laying out water cups, medals & donuts & cookies. I then handed out medals & was lucky enough to get the 1st runner through. I really enjoyed a new volunteer role at the start then seeing finishers in. So much goes on to make the finish run smoothly it was good to see, and as a runner very nearly last through the finish, always much appreciated . out on the course today Katy & Bill were encouraging every participant along their weary way as only a Goodgymer can!

North Walsham Epic marshalling (Don't Tesla me what to do)

Friday 23rd June 2023

Written by Woody

We arrived in good time and took up our position at the corner of the library. Woody's Dad joined in the fun too (apologies for his photography skills) as well as another non GG marshall.

Once we put the road closure in place, we had a lot of protestation from various drivers, a few launching sour language our way and one ignoring the road closure and driving directly against where the runners would come just before the start. We stuck to the task, helping runners keep to the right and keeping traffic turning left, it was all over very quickly so we moved to the park near the end of the course and cheered everyone one.

Massive congratulations to Elizabeth and Rose for completing the Epic North Walsham 5k!

Epic Marshalling in Aylsham

Friday 9th June 2023

Written by Woody

We made our way to the task individually to marshall atthe Epic Aylsham 5k race, taking up positions on the course relitively near to each other. The race was fast and our sections were over very quickly though Bill and Katy were handing out water and medals at the end of the race so were there to help clear up.

Congratulations to Rose and Elizabeth for running the course in the hot weather!
