Quizzee Rascals

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 9 Goodgymer's ran or cycled 4km to Don Pratt Court, a retirement housing complex run by Norwich City Council.

We were invited to host a quiz night for the residents, in an area that has not had many community events for a while.

Despite low attendance we continued with our quiz questions, even using Google translate for a Ukrainian resident to take part. This lady has no TV or radio in her property so we kept her entertained for an hour, and even helped show her how to use the washing machine!

The winning team, Quizzee Rascals, won by a single point after a final round of musical intros! Ram Jam anyone??

Sunny Sunday

Norwich Report written by Liz Kerr

I marshalled at Eaton Junior Parkrun. It was a bright sunny morning, but very chilly at my breezy marshal point. Lots of youngsters turned out to run.

Raining and pouring!

Norwich Report written by Liz Kerr

I marshalled at Eaton Junior Parkrun on a very wet morning. Despite that quite a few turned out to run. Some of the smaller runners were really enjoying splashing through the many puddles.

What a re(leaf)

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Today 6 GoodGymer's ran or cycled to Greenfields Community Centre, close to Catton Park.

A few of us either ran or marshaled at Catton Parkrun before heading to the task.

The venue is surrounded by trees so the building's perimeter was completely covered in leaves. Armed with tools borrowed from Catton Grove (another regular GoodGym task) we got to work sweeping leaves & cutting back weeds.

After 1 hour we had filled up a whopping 27 bags of leaves!.

Woody also used his employment skills to lay out a mesh mat, essentially a black carpet, over the area we had cleared.

Shout Out to Katy joining us for her first session! Well done team.

The Supergroup and the Lizards!

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

What happens when three brilliant community groups join forces? Magic - and a much tidier Lakenham Way!

As well as this, Task Force member Rebecca completed her 200th Good Deed what a hero!!

Today, four energetic GoodGym members teamed up with Wild Lakenham and the Lakenham & Town Close Green Spaces group for a scrub-clearing mission on the railway sidings at the bottom of Lakenham Way - that lovely traffic-free route into Norwich city centre.

The plan: Meet at 10. Get stuck in. The result: By midday, the transformation was incredible!

Trees and shrubs? Gone. Bramble roots? Dug out. Bushes? Cut right down. The bank? Trimmed to perfection (thanks to Roger the Scyther and those trusty hand shears!).

And that’s not all - the team collected heaps of rubbish revealed after recent cutbacks. Among the cans, bottles and crisp packets were some surprises… a tractor and a pregnancy test! (Yes, really.)

This collaboration is extra special because Wild Lakenham owes its very beginnings to GoodGym’s support and networking. Rob played a key role - even giving us our name! So, from everyone at Wild Lakenham: a huge thank you to GoodGym for helping us grow and thrive.

Here’s to more joint adventures and greener spaces for Norwich!
