Hang onto your leaves -No sign of hurricane Maria in Worthing

On a calm and brightish (?! ) evening in Sunny Worthing 6 trusty GoodGym runners met at Spalshpoint Lesiure Centre for a (not so quick) catch up on weekly news and general chat. We almost forgot about the running and task ahead :)

It was lovely to welcome Sue (https://www.goodgym.org/runners/sue-c2e8c2a1-bcc6-48f6-ac03-ab9b55ab6a66) back proudly wearing her new GoodGym tee shirt with the additional super power of the the additional logo on the back. It looked so good that we ( well I ) all have t shirt envy now.

Brownies and fish and chips

The group headed off for a warm up around the pier and found a food theme going on. A group of girl brownies were enjoying a delightful dinner of fish and chips. What a typically lovely seaside scene that was!

Ranger of the lost park

Food forgotten it was time to arrive at the seafront Denton gardens for part 2 of the tidy up on the east bed just next to the mini golf. A warm welcome awaited us from our park ranger Keith who was , as ever , raring to get started and experience yet more 'pun fun'

Power ranger and his A team

Once again the team worked hard under the careful supervsion and wit and humour of Keith next to the golf . Gill managed to improvise another tool to work with. Sue was far from weedy pulling out some monsters ! Beth found a power ball to assist her ranging .Nick went crazy when he found an orange golf ball and Belinda was spotted warming up her bicep muscles in preparation for our Good Gym social next Monday by raising a discarded bottle of cider- organically sourced but not gluten free !

We didn't realise that we were making memories - we just knew we were having fun

The group headed off for a speed of light trip down memory lane revisiting and remembering previous tasks. There was anchor gardens ( not a dolphin to be seen ) Windsor lawns ( quite a royal feeling ) the residents garden ( the rockery and rolling task ) and Teville gate ( Now you see it soon you won't )

Fitness Spirit

With our new '' team buddy '' leader and GoodGym time traveller ,Beth, the runners did some great sprint efforts with every step working towards achieving their individual goals.

The stars were out

A lovely stretch and chat back at Splashpoint Leisure Centre completed another Monday night for GoodGym Worthing

Next week we will be finshing our task and run with a visit to The Egremont pub situated just near Splashpoint at 32 Brighton road , BN11 3ED . This will be an informal ,fun ( and possibly pun finder ) hour where we welcome any current , past or potential GoodGym members and non members and their friends.

Have a great week everyone

Julia :)

Putting a Dent On Denton Gardens with no Susie’s

Monday 11th September 2017

Written by Beth Nelson

Every week I countdown to the next Worthing GoodGym and tonight was no exception. Tonight’s group run was cryptically described as a “Denton Gardens weeding task and magical mystery run with a fitness session led by Beth”; despite the scary prospect of Beth being in charge while Julia and Nick were away on holiday, 4+3=7 GoodGymers turned out on a perfect evening for running.

It was lovely to welcome Leanne along for first group run after hearing about GoodGym at parkrun a few weeks ago, and to see Anne repping her fab new red GG tee!

500 Wings & Sweet 16

We started off with a quick round-up of the week's news, from the quite incredible milestone of 500 deeds completed by Beth from GoodGym Southwark to other sporting news, most importantly of course, nope not Sir Mo winning his 4th successive Great North Run, or the Bristol Half……….Rafa winning his 16th slam!

A thorn in Keith’s side

We then headed out on a gentle 1.5km warm-up out to and around Windsor Gardens before heading to Denton Gardens for tonight’s task. We were welcomed by Park Ranger, Keith…who I’m pretty sure secretly enjoys the half an hour of excessive puns each Monday night he gets to spend with us! Keith explained the weeding and clearing that needed to be done and pointed out the rather deadly acid-like plant he advised us to stay well away from!

Thistle be the end of us

Everyone chose their tool/weapon of choice to tackle the task and quickly set about weeding and clearing. Duncan started masterfully hoeing while Jill, Belinda, and Michelle each took a pair of securters and expertly began chopping back and removing the dead plants, and the wonderfully tangled bindweed. Anne and Leanne displayed great teamwork, with one hoeing and one chopping before they then switched. As always the team made light work of the bindweed, thorns, dead plants and with clearing the area; within what seemed like no time at all, half an hour had passed and two big bags were filled with garden waste.

We posed for a post-task group photo, said our goodbyes to Keith, and headed off on a 2km run towards Victoria Park for a quick circuit session using the outdoor equipment. After the first brief fitness session we then headed back towards base via the beach.

Drop it like its squat

Once we reached the beach the second part of the fitness session aptly named ‘Ode to Rafa’ sprints occurred whereby in partners, everyone took a stone and took it turns to sprint as far as they could in 16 seconds while the other squatted, lunged, and did jumping jacks. The process was then repeated with the stones (aka trip hazards) collected. With two fitness sessions successfully completed and the light fading it was time to head back to base.

No beach trips

Not content with the two fitness sessions, on the final leg back Belinda got in some excellent sprint work along the promenade and Duncan sprinted the last 1km – great effort guys! Back at base we had a quick cool down and stretch and discussed the upcoming plans for a social – details TBC, please complete the Doodle poll.

Next week is part 2 of the weeding task at Denton Gardens – hopefully Julia and Nick will have brought some Spanish sun and warmth back with them! Sign-up here for another Monday night of fun, fitness and doing good!

Sea Mist Eeeri

Monday 29th May 2017

Lost in the sea of Mist eerie

4 brave runners deserve a huge GG cheer to turn out on a Bank holiday damp misty evening to carry out an exceptionally good deed in pea soup conditions along a not so sunny Worthing.

After a warm up run along the prom and down to the end of the pier we arrived at Denton gardens only to find that the 'mist eerie' thickened as alas no park ranger for or Denton Garden tidy up.

GoodGym motto - Always be prepared ! Advice to any GG run trainer would be to always have a spare task in your back pocket . Or, in my case boot of my car! Bags, gloves and litter pickers to the rescue and bank holiday beach clean it was !

Salute to GoodGym HERO of the day A MASSIVE cheer to Paul who was on location on his 3rd GG task OF THE DAY . 3 words Wow, Wow, Wowzer or alternatively Bristol, Croydon , Worthing! Paul . It was wonderful to meet you this evening. Please come back and see us soon.

Nick and Beth A cheesy GG cheer to my husband Nick for coming out to support me tonight and also Beth too after her commute and lack of food !

Sprints to the finish line !

After a 3k steady run we did breakwater sprints along the sand which were extremely challenging but in a strange way rewarding !
