Litter Picking along the Canals

Wed 2 Jun
Report written by James Ananthakumar

3 GoodGymmers made the most of a beautiful day (albeit the clouds had started rolling over by then) to clear up the Canals.

Surprisingly, it was one of the clearest routes that we had seen for a while. Nonetheless there was still plenty within the canals to pick up.

Keeping Contamination out of our Waterways

We are back at Little Venice!!!

It’s taken a lot of work to get these lovely Riverside sessions going again so be great if you are able to make it along!

Meeting at the Canal & River Trust HQ in the heart of Little Venice. Come down Riverside and look for the Red GG tops if your not sure!

We will little grab along the canal bank clearing the waterway of as many current and potential contaminates as possible in a all action hour!

There will be grabbers and buckets but we recommend you bring gloves and hand sanitizer if you can.

We will be visiting the stretch of the canal regularly as we have been for the last 2 years (lockdown excluded). So if you are unable to make this session please join us again soon!

See you there!!

Video killed the Radi-hoe star

Sun 16 May
Report written by Sophie Humphrey

We had a successful Sunday morning doing our best to start sorting out what had been sold to us a a ‘Jungle Garden’. There were weeds and ivy everywhere the eye could see and so we got stuck straight in pulling everything up and feeling once more all the gardening muscles we had forgotten about. There was a fair bit of buried ‘treasure’ including a VHS tape but there was no time for movies as there was work to be done! With such swift weeding from everyone, we were able to clear a few nice patches for Sarah to take the lead on popping in some plants (watered immediately by the drizzle which kindly joined us!) We definitely saw a significant difference from just the one trip but look forward to hopefully getting more done over the next few weeks and see the full transformation!

Transport Pret leftovers to a homeless charity

Sat 6 Mar

Bright Morning Star Prisons and Homeless Outreach help to rebuild, support and elevate the lives of the most vulnerable people on the street and at their Walk-In Centres. They provide basic and immediate physical and emotional help to the public, and provide a free counselling service.

We've been asked to help with transporting leftovers from Pret A Manger, St John’s Road, Clapham, SW11 1PX to Lola who distributes the food at 3 Hermes Court, Southey Road, SW9 0PF. Here's a map - it's a 5km run/ride.

If you go in and say you're collecting food for Bright Morning Star Prison and Homeless Outreach, they should give you the leftovers! There may be quite a lot so just take what you can :)

🎒Please bring a backpack/panniers to transport the food (plastic bags might be useful too as the bags the pastries etc are in can be greasy!).

🤿Please bring a mask to wear in the shop

We need 3 people to sign up to transport the food - you can either run or ride, together or separately. If there are any problems, please call Modesta from Bright Morning Star who will meet you on 07432 690877.

Any questions? Email me 👉 markgilyead@goodgym.org

Thank you 🙏 and hope it goes well!

Rebecca has completed 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Sat 20 Feb 2021

Rebecca has already done 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Instead of doing anything else, they've used their run to go and help people that need their help; digging, lifting, scraping, clearing, planting and weeding. Stuff that makes this a better place to be.
