Getting the "hole" team together on the right path

Southwark Report written by Southwark runner

Yesterday, 10 Goodgymmers went to Nunhead Cemetery to help Andreas from Friends of Nunhead Cemetey move some bricks and repair a path.

We split into two groups: one for wheeling bricks and another group for repairing a path. It was a fun evening, and we enjoyed helping the volunteers at FONC.

We never sky-ve off

Westminster Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)

Last night GoodGym Westminster combined food rescue with community outreach. The evening started with an unexpected bonus – bumping into Brenda on her way to Gail's! After a quick hello, I headed off to Hyde Park to meet Khai, and together we ran back to reunite with Brenda outside Gail's Bakery for GoodGym Westminster's first food rescue from this location.

There was a little bit of confusion to begin with but once we'd cracked the issue, we successfully rescued three bags of perfectly good food that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Our next stop was to meet Under One Sky, a charity that supports people experiencing homelessness by providing essential items, food, hot drinks and compassionate outreach. Their volunteers head out onto the streets to build trusted relationships with rough sleepers, offering practical help alongside signposting to longer-term support services. In Westminster, where rough sleeping remains one of the biggest challenges facing the borough, organisations like Under One Sky provide a vital lifeline for people who are often isolated and in crisis.

The second challenge of the evening was finding the team, who were already on the move with their trolley full of food and hot drinks! After a bit of tracking them down, we caught up, handed over the rescued goodies, and had a great chat about making this a regular Tuesday evening partnership.

Our collaboration that ticks every box: delicious food is rescued instead of being wasted, and it reaches people who can really benefit from it the very same evening.

No food waste, more people fed - a real win-win.

The Last Table Standing

Crystal Palace Report written by Brenda SMITH (She/her)

After helping the community hit all the right notes at Music in the Park, GoodGym volunteer Brenda joined the volunteer team for the pack-down after the jam-down, dismantling gazebos and bringing the tables to a close at Alexandra Recreation Ground. With many hands making light work, everything was folded, stacked and packed away in record time, ensuring the event ended on a high note. What a funday

Raising Gazebos and Hitting High Notes in the Park

Crystal Palace Report written by Brenda SMITH (She/her)

On a sunny morning at Alexandra Recreation Ground, GoodGymer Brenda helped the local volunteer team get the show on the road by raising gazebos, setting tables and striking all the right chords ahead of the annual Music in the Park fundraiser. Organised by the fantastic Friends of Cator Park and Alex Rec, the event supports a group that keeps Penge’s green spaces in tune through tree planting, shrubbery care and community improvements. Thanks to plenty of teamwork, the stage was set for a day of music, fun and park life in perfect harmony.

Pace, Play and ParKRUN Glory

Southwark Report written by Brenda SMITH (She/her)

With England’s battle against France still sparking excitement, the young runners at Peckham Junior parkrun were raring to go on a sun-soaked morning. Three GoodGymers joined the core team to help the event score another cracking success, bringing plenty of energy, encouragement and community spirit. The juniors flew around the course with football-inspired flair, proving that when pace meets play, everyone’s a winner. There were no offsides, plenty of fast breaks, and one clear goal throughout the morning, cross the finish line smiling!
