Paddle the canal

Join us to take to the water for a paddle along The Regent’s Canal, it will be very social activity and lite work out.
Paddling along the Regent's Canal in Haggerston is unique way to view East London, surrounded by canal boats and passing by the wildlife. Great social opportunity to get together and it's a good work out for the arms!
The wonderful Laburnum Boat Club will be our host's, they are a fantastic charity working with young people.
Spaces are limited and the event is £10 each.
Bring a change of clothing and some old trainers, we won't be doing any rolling but you might still get wet!

Loughborough Farm & the Orchard

The Loughborough Farm is a patchwork of community growing spaces bringing people together in the heart of Loughborough Junction, South London.
The Loughborough Farm is a community garden open to everyone who wants to learn organic growing skills and meet their neighbours. They have been around since 2013 and provide a healthy outdoor space for people to engage and connect with each other and nature.
This week we are heading down to help out at the Farm and Orchard as well & Tasks will be:
Weeding, watering and mulching of fruit trees.
Some digging and preparing ground for more planting of fruit bushes.

Tidying up at Westcombe Woodlands

The Friends of Westcombe Woodlands take care of some beautiful woodland right next to Maze Hill station. They are hosting a volunteer morning on the 11th June followed by an Open Day 2.-5pm when the public come and have a look round. They will spend the morning ‘preparing’ which is basically tidying up - it is very overgrown since COVID! Any extra pairs of helping hands will be very welcome!
Please bring some gardening gloves.
Meeting point
If you're not familiar with the woodlands, here 's the directions: Go onto the platform of Maze Hill station on the ticket office side and walk up to the far end. There is a little foot path leading to Seren Park. At the end of the little path, turn right and go to the end of the carpark. You will see the entrance gate and someone from the Friends of Westcombe Woodlands will be there to welcome you!

GoodGym Greenwich Social

Okay, maybe you're all too young to remember the TV show "Around with Alliss"? But hopefully we will be putting (see what I did there?) on our own show for our next GG social...
Join us for our next GoodGym Greenwich social at CrazyPutt Adventure Golf on the Greenwich Peninsula on Friday 10th June, 6.45pm.
This is an Adventure Golf Course that takes inspiration from famous courses from around the world. These venues include The Belfry, Wentworth, Augusta, K-Club and the home of golf – St Andrews.
Whether, you run, walk or just volunteer with us everyone is welcome to come along! Just sign up to let me know you are coming along. If we get over 10 of us then we can make a group booking for £10 per player. (If not it's £12 per player.)
Hopefully it will be a fun night, and we can possibly go for drinks and food afterwards to the bar in the driving range.

Windmill Bread & Beer Festival
A group of us turned up to Brixton Windmill to help set up for the Bread and Beer festival.
Lots of preparation went into this, with lots of local stalls and volunteers. The Windmill team put on a great event.
Our little group helped them out with tasks such as setting up bins, digging in a Maypole, setting up chairs, tables and displays. Great work, team!

Springtime at the Farm
On a beautiful sunny afternoon at the farm, 6 GoodGymmers got to work packaging manure and preparing the compost for the tomatoes. We also cleared out the overgrown plants from the Turkey pen and fed them to the pigs and piglets who were very grateful. As usual, we finished the session with a tour of the farm and met all the new arrivals !

Parkrun On Tour: Hilly Fields
Our "Parkrun on Tour" continued with our fourth different parkrun in South London. This time, we were back to face the hills again after testing the waters at Brockwell parkrun in February. We had finally arrived at Hilly Fields! Famously notorious for...hills (would you believe?!). A 3-lap course that had not one but two hills to tackle each lap!
It seems to be a regular theme with these "Parkruns on Tour" that we bring the sunshine. With great conditions, 10 GoodGymers from GG Barnet, Ealing, Greenwich, Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark and Tower Hamlets were ready to get going!
We all lined up for the start and then off we went! Setting our own pace, here were the results:
- Harvey - 19th (21:14)
- Sam - 35th (22:41)
- Matt - 76th (25:29)
- Jacqui - 98th (27:07)
- Gaivile - 114th (27:55)
- Laura - 124th (28:18)
- Maria - 140th (29:18)
- Kim - 145th (29:48)
- Dave - 158th (30:44)
- Aine - 193rd (34:58)
After the parkrun and a group photo, we made our way to the Hilly Fields Cafe for a hot beverage and some had breakfast too!
Well done everyone and looking forward to seeing you on another "Parkrun on Tour". The next one we'll be heading to Tooting on Saturday 28th of May. A crossover for the GG Lambeth and Wandsworth crew! Check the details and sign up here!
