Shopping for the lovely Mr J follows a standard pattern. The first items are the green vegetables, followed by berries.
Today was unusual in that the only berries were the pyracantha on the way home. Usually, there are blueberries, strawberries and often raspberries.

The reason was that Mrs J is in hospital at the moment and I think she is the berry eater.

Other than the berries, it was a a fairly standard list, with the addition of frozen garlic bread.

There were four GG members litter picking in three boroughs today, Cecilia and Ivar in Greenwich, Adi in Lewisham and Paul in Southwark.

Cecilia and Ivar picked an area just outside Sutcliffe Park, where they had been at parkrun. They managed to collect a whole bag of recyclables and another bag of general waste - impressive work! They also spread the word about GG a passer by who congratulated them on their work!

Adi was out early in Sydenham's Mayow Park and found much less litter but left the park beautiful and clean!

Paul was out with his trusty bag for life and litter picker with friends from The Green Runners after Southwark parkrun. The bag was filled twice before heading back to home ground. '

A trip to Southwark to meet up with a friend to run and helped set up their fiendishly complicated finish funnel, where my knowledge of knots came in handy..

It was an unadorned and destiny-appointed task—a mere ten minutes’ traverse across the damp, unheeding earth of Lewisham to bear the heavy white sheets and woollen coverlets of the esteemed Mrs L. from the steam-fogged vault of the laundry back to her solitary hearth.

Our discourse turned to the immutable passage of the days and the small designs of the coming weekend; her cramped chambers were entirely dominated by great boxes of Christmas bounties, ordained to be hauled away by the carrier’s wagon on the Sabbath. Of the eve of that day, however—the Saturday—she spoke with the hesitant dimness of one who sees no certainty in the shifting fog of tomorrow.At length, I turned my back upon the threshold, flinging into the gathering gloom a parting vow to cross her path again when three more weeks had been ground away by the slow wheel of Time.

The delightful Ms Y loves her oranges, but her requirements are very specific - small, sweet and not too expensive. At my first call (Sainsburys) , they were far too big and very expensive (and not very many for the price.

Fortunately, some small, reasonably priced ones were at the Co-Op. The counted them as I gave them to her to put in the fridge - she was more impressed with the easy peelers than my signing ‘2-4-6-8 fruitaway’ (apologies to the Tom Robinson Band) as she put them away.
