5km together but apart was this week's theme for our training run.
Rachel and I were both glad we had a reason to go out of the door into the dark and cold otherwise the temptation of the sofa may have been difficult to resist. Rachel also managed to take some lovely photos of the seafront lights.
Catherine deserves an extra high 5 as today was her longest run recorded on Strava. 🙌
Loads of great kms on the board for our team in the January Challenge. Next week we have Sinead's bingo challenge... Run as far as you want!
Keep up the great running everyone! 😁
An easy return to training for the first week back. Take yourself out for a 5km on your own, with your household or with one other at a social distance.
Take a pic and send it over for the run report! Homework deadline is 8pm on Wednesday!! 😁
Caroline is a now a pretty committed GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the fifth time
Mindful Chef x GoodGym
The task was simple.... Instead of taking something from an Advent Calendar each day during December, we had to put something in. Non perishable foods were the order, to be sent back in a big box on 20th for distribution to families in need via the Felix Project.
There were a few challenges along the way:
- drying out the box when it arrived on the wettest day of the week!
- making sure the box was less than 10kg
- finding a happy collect+ collection point!
We never shy away from a challenge though and all boxes were safely filled, sealed and dispatched!
How this works:
We’ve been contacted by Mindful Chef, the healthy recipe box company, who have a great way to log a good deed in the run up to Christmas. Their Reverse Advent Calendar scheme is an easy way to give back to communities around the UK. It's a simple idea:
Order a free box from firstname.lastname@example.org Every day in December add an item of non perishable food into the box
On 20th December run, walk or cycle your box to your nearest postal location and use the free label to post it back to Mindful Chef who will be distributing the vital supplies with the Felix Project It is a really easy but effective (and lockdown friendly!) way to give back to families and communities this Christmas. Further details on the initiative can be found here.
You don't need to be a customer, if you would like to take part, email email@example.com to request your free box today.
We suggest that if you live near other GG buddies you might want to share a box.
Please email a picture to me (firstname.lastname@example.org) once you have filled the box so that you can be included in the run report.
6x400m was the name of the game for this week's training session and those who didn't already know found out that 400m is the devil's distance to sprint!
Channeling our inner Iwan Thomas / Roger Black (both local GB 400m record holders) we headed out for our runs.
Vicki went out early, starting in the dark to run up and down Kirby Road and admire the lovely houses at the same time.
Jen went out last minute and ran her 400s just before the Zoom social.
Caroline stayed local and "off island" and I ran some laps of Great Salterns making a fundamental error on my 5th rep running further than 400m 🤦🏻♀️
Great efforts by everyone as always. Next week..... Hills! Good luck.
It's a 5km time trial - that doesn't mean you have to run fast (unless you want to).
Let's see how many GoodGymers we can get running, jogging or walking a 5km in the week leading up to 25/11. Please email me a post (or during) run photo for inclusion in the run report. Your email must be submitted by 7pm on Wednesday 25th November.
You can choose your route and when you do it. If you prefer to have company, you are allowed to run with one other person so get the date in the diary. The benefit of doing this together but not together is that you can do it in the daytime if you want to - so no need to find the headtorch!
If you are a parkrunner you can also add your time to your parkrun profile, as a (not)parkrun. The details of how to do it are here
