Tonight’s runtastic 9km distance run to Thrive Community Hub’s allotment manned by Oak House hostel on Colchester avenue. Read all about it!!

Tonight was awesome, new faces… welcome to Lucy, Balint, Rob and Ciara. They were all in for a treat with tonight’s run to Thrive Community Hub’s new allotment (it was one of the furthest distances we've run to date... but they all did awesome, smashed it, and we hope they return!). The allotment was recently acquired by Thrive Community Hub, a shared accommodation scheme managed by United Welsh providing targeted help to people who are homeless in Cardiff. It's always nice to have new people join. Are you thinking of joining? Do it!.

We all met at Yr Hen Lyfrgell and when the clock struck 6.30 Ben ushered everyone outside (Like Yeah!). There, all 24 runners participated in a warm up and a head count (I have to say, we are getting better at head counts now…!). Warmed up and feeling good Ben divided everyone into two groups, the adrenaline seeking speed Gonzalez’s led by Mikey and the calmer, but still a force to be reckoned with, running wildcats, led by Ben.

Mikey led the adrenaline seekers off at a pace with the running wildcats following close behind. We crossed roads where Ben laughed in the face of danger… and waited for the green man before crossing. He also ferociously pressed the traffic light button, believing that it needed to be pressed 139.1 times for it to change instantly. This also allowed runners to regroup; our GoodGym ethos is that nobody gets left behind and true to that we held wall squats and fashionably displayed single leg piston squats to allow for other runners to catch up.

Ben, armed with a catalog of riddles stored in his head, asked runners… "What level of difficulty would you like, easy, medium or hard?" Without a pause, “HARD” bellowed Fliss. And so it was…

The Riddle: “What falls but doesn’t break and what breaks but doesn’t fall?” Post your suggestions in the comment box below. Answer to be revealed in next week’s run report.

GoodGym Cardiff minds continued to try and work out the riddle for the rest evening whilst running the streets of Cardiff.

Welcome all! Have some water and get refreshed.

Michele, Joyce and Steve greeted us at the task site, Colechester allotments. Michele blessed us with water – thank you for this! – which restored our hydration levels. We then headed down to the specific plot being looked after by the Thrive Community Hub, where our task for the evening lay silently in waiting…

Michele explained the tasks that needed doing… We had groups pulling up plastic sheets that were buried deep in the ground, others trimming back the hedges and some runners getting distracted with the nature’s beauties that kept hopping out to see what we were doing. They toad-ally loved it! Kudos to the toad in the photos! We also spotted a sign that said "stop stealing my plums" - it was inevitable that this would then be acknowledged in the Pun for the Run.

It’s amazing how much you’ve done in the time you had…

All 24 runners got stuck in for 25 minutes before we had to bring an end to the task. Ben quickly got everyone to participate in an epic mannequin challenge and group photo to finish off the evening. Steve, a resident of Thrive Community Hub’s hostel service, the scheme that we were supporting through doing the task said final words of gratitude and invited us back again in the future to try the food that’s harvested at the allotment.

Trust us, we will be back - It was great fun!

After waving goodbye to Michele and Steve we then headed back in our formations; the adrenaline seeking speed Gonzalez’s led by Mikey, and the calmer, but still a force to be reckoned with, running wildcats, led by Ben. ZOOM. Both groups headed back at speed, stopping where necessary to tricep dip to allow everyone to regroup. Thank you Ellen for backmarking on the way to the task and Samina for on the way back.

Answer of last week’s riddle: What’s black before you use it, red whilst you use it, and grey when you throw it away… it was COAL! Well done to those who got it.

Winner of this week’s RunPunstiltskin award Well done to Fliss! Epic suggestion. Please enjoy having the virtual award for the next week. Take care of it and enjoy every moment and please hand it back next week.

Sign up to next week! Thanks all for an awesome, challenging and fun run. You all did fab! Sign up to next week’s run by clicking here
