We lost a couple of folks to seasonal colds this morning (get well soon guys!) but Suse, Sam and JP escaped the bugs to make the mission at the Richmond Furniture Scheme and what a lovely sunny morning it was!

The RFS is a local charity whose focus is to help those in need in the community by providing affordable, accessible furniture, offering discounts for people receiving state benefits, students and NHS workers. We have regular Saturday missions with them and they are always very grateful for out help - check out the listing at the bottom of this post to join the next session!

After a mooch around the showroom while the staff finished serving some customers (and finding some choice items on offer), we were shown to our task, which involved tidying up an area of the yard. This meant clearing out a pile of old metal junk, sweeping leaves and rubbish and bagging it up, stacking everything neatly up and making a start on moving a large amount of scrap wood to a big junk pile.

We got stuck in, moving bikes, old chairs, a revolving card rack and various pieces of scrap metal out of the way, before shifting a load of wooden pallets out of the area and stacking them neatly by the junk pile for later collection. We got a broom and a big shovel and swept up all the mess and bagged it carefully into some rather small and thin black bags.

Then came the good part: Suse dug out a whole load of pieces of wood of all shapes and sizes from a storage area for Sam and JP to throw onto the junk pile, which proved to be a lot of fun! We used all our javelin, hammer-throwing and caber-tossing skills to get the pieces far back on the pile, with points awarded for distance and style. Great to get some field games in on a bright and cheerful Saturday morning!

Before leaving, we stacked the metal stuff neatly against the fence and stepped back to admire our work. It was a thoroughly satisfying job well done and we headed off for a lovely cup of coffee feeling happy with our start to the weekend.

The next session will need a big bunch of people so please sign up if you can: https://www.goodgym.org/v3/sessions/supporting-richmond-furniture-scheme-regular-monthly-task-0fbcb1ad-17b4-4da3-98ca-6a26b66bafcb
