Six GoodGymmers cleared, stacked and stored tonnes of unsold clothes, DVDs, CDs and bric-a-brac after the St Joseph's Hospice September jumble sale and saved their team many hours of heavy lifting

The jumble sale is a kind of a big deal in Hackney as it raises lots of money for St Joseph's Hospice and attracts bargain hunters willing to queue hours before opening time. It's also a regular mission, workout and shopping trip for GoodGym.

On arrival we could see happy shoppers leaving with bags, trolleys and carloads (!) of bargains so it's no surprise that these much-loved jumble sales can raise funds of around £10,000 ...

and this sale was no different as St Joseph's Hospice raised an incredible £10,194.43.

This helps the hospice to continue providing FREE support for people affected by serious illnesses as well as their families and friends. You can find out how to support them HERE.

GoodGym assemble and guitar piece of the action!

We welcomed newbies to the Hospice (well done, Prima who also came straight from another mission) and missions entirely (nice one, Titi!) .

Most of us got in the spirit and went down early to bag some bargains but it's so big we barely scratched the surface! Rosie found a guitar and jelly shoes while Eva beefed up her bookcase. I saw Lucy wandering the floors, too!

Clear a sale ultra

At 1pm, GoodGym and some of the St Joseph's team joined forces to clear and close down the sale:

  • CDs, DVDs, vinyl and books
  • clothes, shoes, bags and linens
  • jewellery and bric-a-brac
  • the folding tables AND...
  • more DVDs!

There is a LOT to shift and it used to mean the St Joseph's team were still clearing up late evening but GoodGym's support makes this a thing of the past. We were happy to help, have fun and enjoy a great workout moving big trolleys, cages and clothes rails.

The lift (just one working this time!) and staircases were also kept busy which meant the storage rooms and basement floors were full after an hour and a half.

Photo finish

We maintained the tradition of a GoodGym team photo with a piece of bric-a-brac; the quirkier and more hideous the better! Rosie had a date with some farmyard animals so had left early but we ensured she got in the spirit and managed to snap a picture of her with her bargains... sitting in a trolley bin, obvs.

Want to get involved next time?

Get your diaries out and guarantee yourself a hard-but-fun workout, a bargain and a memorable photo at the festive (too soon?) jumble sale on Saturday 18th November. Miss it miss out!
