The Rake-full Head

This morning I finally reached mission number 150 (woot! 🎉) with a mission with Rupesh in Barnet. To mark the occasion, I made sure to wear a pair of my caped socks (I went with my Thor ones this time), which I think Rupesh was duly impressed by 😎👍 At any rate, he was certainly surprised that I'd been able to buy them instead of making them myself 😄

Today we were helping Mr K. Mr K has found it difficult to keep up with a lot of the gardening since having some difficulties with his health. GoodGym were asked if we could do a couple of small jobs around the garden for him.

After introducing ourselves to Mr K, we got to work! We were both pretty impressed at exactly how neat and tidy everything in the garden already was, and I wondered exactly what we needed to work on.

It turned out that my main job was to make everything look worse by raking up some moss from the lawn. I say "some moss", but it had some crazy, gremlin-like property of multiplying (presumably because it got wet in the rain this morning). This meant that, following the emuscation of the lawn, large patches of earth ended up being exposed and, as they would say in my home town in Wales, it ended up looking a bit mank 😬

In contrast, Rupesh got on with some much more aesthetically pleasing tasks: First, he used some shears to level off some bushes. Second, he sawed down a denuded shrub and dug out its root (using a handle-less fork). This made everything look much neater. He did something with a spade, too, but I'm afraid I wasn't looking at that part 🤷🏼‍♀️

Feeling slightly cheated at the disparity of the Instagrammable nature of our jobs (& because Rupesh had pretty much finished his part of the task), I kindly allowed him to use the rake on the front garden, while I cleared up behind him. Rupesh was as amazed as I was at the sheer amount of moss that got raked up, and was continually cleaning the rake head of moss. Perhaps because of this, Rupesh graciously posed for our "Rakeful head" photo, amusing Mr K in the process 😄

Just over 90 minutes or so after starting the task, Rupesh and I finished up, said goodbye to Mr K, and made our way to a local pub for a celebratory drink, some cake that I'd hidden away in my bag, and a toast; "To the next 150!"
