Here's what Mr G of SE5 had to say about the mission:

"Thank you so much for the hard work from your volunteers. Thank you so much for facilitating the discharge of patients and being part of the process of allowing them to return to their homes. You guys are amazing! A big thank you from The Pulross rehabilitation team!"

Mr G of SE5, mission beneficiary

On a sunny Sunday morning, when everyone (me) was feeling fresh from the night before, I met up with Juliet for a mission in Southwark.

Our task for the day was to help facilitate Mr G's release from hospital by moving some furniture from his living room to a bedroom. This will allow a hospital bed to be installed in the living room, meaning that he can go home ☺️

On arrival, we were greeted by Mrs G, who showed us the furniture to be moved. In total, we were to move two two-seater sofas and a coffee table up some stairs.

As kind as the universe had been to me with my missions last week, tough love was the order of the day this morning. Not only were the two-seater sofas leather (which automatically adds an infinite weight to them πŸ‹οΈ), they were also recliners, having all of the metal innards that entails (so twice an infinite amount of weight πŸ‹οΈπŸ‹οΈ - maybe even as infinite as my run reports). Perhaps foreseeing some potential extra problems, Juliet was really good about moving breakable items dotted along our route (tea cups, pictures, mirrors) out of the way before we started moving any furniture that had a twice-infinite weight and a fond relationship with gravity.

Since we could no longer break the breakable items, we broke ourselves into the task by moving the glass coffee table upstairs. This was fairly standard, albeit slightly heavy, and so we managed with aplomb.

Next came the two-seater sofas of doom. After L-shaping the first one out of the living room, we started the long trek up the stairs (which included a sneaky little 180 degree turn just when you thought the stairs were finished). Juliet took the lead at the front of the sofa, which I think means that she ended up doing the bulk of the work, and we slowly took the sofa up the stairs step-by-step.

With the first sofa up, we got a little overconfident about the second one, which meant that it took us about twice as long to move and included a brief break in the middle to catch our breath. However, we persevered and finally reunited the two sofas in their new surrounds πŸ’ͺ✌️

Job done within 45 minutes, we made our goodbyes to Mrs G and each other before going off for respective recovery runs (recovery from those infinite weights, that is). Lovely meeting you Juliet! πŸ˜„
