There was a merciful break in the pouring rain, long enough for three intrepid runners to get to Barnes and complete a mission without getting soaking wet. The mission was for Mr M, who has very limited mobility due to physical disability, and whose garden had been taken over by a host of huge plants, weeds, brambles and nettles. We were met by the referrer from FISH Neighbourhood Care (https://www.fishhelp.org.uk/) who stayed with us throughout the task and added her own efforts to ours.

It had been a year since the garden had been cleared and we were daunted by the size of some of the plant life, but once we got round with a set of loppers and a woodsaw everything started to look a little bit more manageable. The undergrowth was thick and concealed a number of brambles and nettles, so as we worked the Sunday quiet was punctuated by the odd “ow”, but we made solid progress and the green piles started growing high ready for bagging.

By the time we were done, we had filled 7 large sacks and felt deeply satisfied with our afternoon’s work. Mr M was enormously grateful and happy that he could get outside again, using the wheelchair ramp down into the garden.
