10 GG Yorkies met in West Bank Park to spread grit and make the park safe for users.

This week has been an icy one in York and the park had been closed earlier in the week because black ice was making it unsafe. The council had, by now made a start on the gritting. It was our job to walk all the paths and top up the gritty stuff so that the park will be safe to open tomorrow morning.

Notable amongst the group were Michal, who was proudly wearing the Cape of Good Deeds after completing his 50th good deed this week, and Abi and Dom who have moved to York from London just a few days ago. Give 'em all a big cheer!

Michal gave us an expert demonstration on how to spread grit which attracted a few 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from the crowd. In short, you load up a shovel, and then skim a trowel across the top of the grit as you walk to scatter it onto the path in front.

The team loaded up wheelbarrows and split into small groups to cover different areas of the park, meeting back together at the opposite end for a group photo. There, Ed made his contribution to today's bingo challenge (do a drawing) by drawing a face in some grit, while Michael showed off the GoodGym logos that he'd drawn on his legs using reflective paint.

All that was left to do after that was walk back through the non-slip park to our respective homes!
