A wholesome night with wholesome people

Southwark Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

How do you wrap up an amazing year with incredible people?

By inviting them to an "End of year / Christmas" social in an exclusive bar (shout out to Bo Kiri) with pre-ordered pizza from Voodoo Ray's on GG Southwark, to take part in a closely contended sensory pub quiz with dubious spelling and grammar mistakes and even more questionably smelling lip balm...and a gift giving ceremony to those people who deserve a special mention/shoutout. That's how.

After watching France beat Morocco and as we demolished 6 x 22" inch pizzas and 2 x 12" inch pizzas, we were all ready for the pub quiz, which Sam had prepared during his holidays in Thailand in November and updated it that morning. It was a sensory pub quiz, which meant there would be a blindfolded touching, tasting and smelling round. We split into teams of 3s or 4s and ultimately, we had 6 teams fighting for the grand prize of....Thai soaps (shaped in the fruit that they smell of). After 10 rounds mixed in with general knowledge of the events of 2022, the winners winning by 1/2 point was "BAP" - Benjamin, Anna and Paulin.

The awards ceremony consisted of nine out of the twelve GG Southwark members who were given a yearly target of "number of good deeds to reach by the Xmas social" reaching them and being awarded with Thai gifts or gifts that meant something to them/GoodGym. Kudos again to Lindy, Emma McNally, Emma, Nelly, Daryl, Paulin, Anna and Benjamin. Also, to Laura Grant and Olive who were not there on the night for reaching your targets! There will be 2023 targets, but after the January Challenge!

The proceedings ended with a wholesome GG Southwark 2022 highlights video and a send off for Emma McNally who is leaving us for three months to travel and explore!

Thank you to my GG Southwark family for the gifts - GG shirt and the "Walking the O2" experience. Treasure both and will post photos once I go on the experience.

Finally, we were kicked out of Bo Kiri after overstaying by 30 minutes, but Michael (supervisor) was fine with that. We headed off to Nag's Head for the after party, but the after after party at Four Quarters didn't happen as we were content with finally getting a table and chairs.

Thank you one more time for coming to whether it was one or multiple GoodGym sessions this year and after a much deserved rest, we go again! See you in 2023!

Let’s Goat It On!

Southwark Report written by Laura Grant

It was a frisky day on the farm when four Good Gymmers turned up for our regular task. We began by mucking out the goats before heading out to the riverside garden where task owner Kate set us to work sorting the vegetation and breaking down it down into bite-sized pieces. Then it was back to the goats who enjoyed munching on the efforts of our hard work. As usual, we finished with a quick tour to meet all the animals.

Sweep & hop

Southwark Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

On a beautiful Saturday morning, eight GoodGymers arrived at Surrey Docks Farm to meet Kate, the Farm coordinator as she had plenty of tasks for GoodGym this month.

It was Nicola and Patrick's first ever good deed with GoodGym, so Sam welcomed them with his classic GoodGym speech as slowly Miranda, Kim, Simon and Az arrived.

We started proceedings with a short intro and the ice breaker question today was to do with it being Halloween on Monday, so Sam asked everyone their favourite horror film. We had classics like The Shining and Silence of the Lambs, but also new ones like Nope!

We all started off as a team in the goats pen sweeping away the goats 💩 and chopping up the branches that the goat stripped bare and left barkless, which we did in 45 minutes.

At this point, Kim and Simon left as Simon had to rush off for the Cross Country.

We split into Team Hops and Team Leaves. Miranda, Az and Maria chose Team Hops as they tore down the dead hops on the fence inside and out of the Farm. Whilst Team Leaves consisting of Sam, Patrick and Nicola swept the Thames Path and garden area of leaves before putting this leaf mulch in a tonne bag.

These two tasks took us up to midday before we spent the last 30 minutes roaming the Farm to see the piglets, sheep and goats.

Az completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Az was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Hi Hayley. I sent out an email with instructions last night. There should be a contact number for Jacky there. I can't post it here.
