TRAID (Textile Reuse and International Development) is a UK charity working to tackle and solve the problems caused by producing, consuming and disposing of clothes. We do this by providing convenient ways for the public to reuse clothes while delivering education to people of all ages to raise awareness of the powerful environmental and social benefits of reducing our clothing footprint. The funds we raise are committed to global projects benefiting the people and places making our clothes. The work we support aims to improve environmental and social outcomes from supporting cotton farmers grow organic cotton to helping retailers to eliminate child labour in their supply chains.

Most of the funds are raised through our charity shops, and in order to do so, we hold five Sale periods a year across our eleven branches, these last approximately 2-3 weeks. The last day of the Sale, after closing time, we need to pack the leftovers and leave the shop clear for it to be restocked the following day, here is where your teams can be of much help.

37 GoodGymers have supported TRAID with 17 tasks.

The Way The Wind Clothes

Monday 22nd January

Written by Sam Chapman

On this big windy night, the top team at Traid needed our help with their regular sale stock changing shenanigans, so a small but elite team was assembled.

I arrived at Traid at one minute to 6 to see chief GoodGym timekeeper Nurjehan already hard at work, EARLY! 👍⌚️ Emily arrived shortly after and in no time the three of us, along with the Traid crew, removed the many clothes hangers and packed up the four massive boxes with clothes, including an attractive bow tie and a fetching brown teddy bear skin bikini top.

Until next time! 👕👙

Wouldn't Traid GGH For The World

Wednesday 15th November 2023

Written by Dave Mansfield

Six Goodgymmers tore through TRAID in a whirlwind, to help them get ready for the next load of donations.

Charity shops? Big fan

Sam strolled at the front door bang on 6 o'clock, with Dave arriving moments later and out of breath. We're regulars here for the stock change overs, but had to wait before tearing the old clothes off the rack, as there were still customers in the shop! We took advantage of the time, to hoover a few of the dusty fans.

Before long the doors were locked (and unlocked again as various GGers slipped in), and we could get cracking. The unsold clothes flew off the racks, including some very stylish knitwear, and a classic recipe teatowel begging to be turned into a dress. They'd had a good season, so had even less clothes left than normal, so we finished in record time. We discussed a couple of training sessions, but in the end decided to get an early night :D

Eukes is back next week for jet washing at Wolves Lane!

Pop Dead Gorgeous

Wednesday 20th September 2023

3 Goodgymmers Cool Brittaniaed their way through a Britpop-infused evening as the staff at Wood Green Traid blasted their way through a lovely, and sometimes itchy, playlist.

Mis-Shapes

Nurjehan, Neil, and Gramps - as Common People as they come, battled the elements tonight and made their way to the High Road in Wood Green for a task at which we keep Getting Better and better every time we go.

A bit soggy but still smiling, our Girls & Boys cracked on with the job at hand in proper This Is Hardcore mood.

We unhooked some clothes, We sometimes even tried some of them on

It gave us a sense of enormous well-being

(Parklife)

After an hour or so, and once we were satisfied we had left the Wide Open Spaces of Traid Sorted For Es and Whizz, Nurjehan - our resident timekeeper - came along and She Said, this is the End Of The Century. A bit dramatic, perhaps, but Queen Khan does as she pleases. Alright.

Having enjoyed the musical interlude, we all headed home in the cold, cold rain. And whatever you do, just don't bring up Oasis around Gramps - he comes up in hives

sTraid Outta Cotton

Wednesday 22nd March 2023

5 G.W.As (Goodgymmerz With Attitudes) ran through the mean streets of Wood Green to lend a hand at Traid as they rid their shop floor of last season's clothes. Boom!

Clocking up tasks like it's going out of fashion

Big up for Super Sam who has reached the magical 300 tasks in a rather speedy fashion! Big fans of her handiwork here at GGH HQ so we were very happy to be able to make a bit of a fuzz for her. How long before she hits 400? Watch this space!

Cut from the same cloth

What can we say about this task that we haven't said before? We love our quarterly trip to Traid on Wood Green High Road. It's indoors, it's warm, it's fun, we get to dress up, and the good folk at Traid always look at us as if we had just landed from a distant planet as we buzz around the shop chatting and working at equal speed. It really is a joy to watch our Goodgymmers at this task as they glide through the shop floor. A task they can almost complete with their eyes closed by now, they efficiently and systematically make their way through packing the clothes away and all the hangers too. All the while not stopping their nattering even to take a breather. Impressive stuff.

Tonight we had to leave at 6:40 to make our way to the our next task of the evening but SuperSam and Nurj decided to stay behind and continue helping Traiders on the floor. Stars.

Fun times and onto the next.

Join us next week for more fun and games for another double tasker on Wednesday!

Ramadan Mubarak to all brother and sister celebrating

Fair-Traid Tea

Wednesday 16th November 2022

Written by Euclides Montes

4 Goodgymmers put on their best glad rags and vogued their way down to Traid for an evening of spilt tea!

Howdy Corner

Big GGHaringey Howdy to David, an GGIslington regular who joined us for his first Haringey outing. An absolute pro, he fit in like a pair astronaut llama leggings on a Goodgymmer. Hope to see you again soon.

Houston, we have a prob-llama

Nowadays, GGHaringey have the Traid task game down to a T. We could possibly do it with our eyes closed now so it was no surprise we breezed our way through clearing the shop floor of all clothes and coat hangers.

We passed the time by quizzing David gently about his GG life, and also by spilling some very spicy tea by some of our GGH veterans. But you had to be there for that particular round of goss.

A pair of psychedelic blue leggings of a rainbow astronaut llama inspired an impromptu rendition of Major Tom by Gramps (I'm sure it was that, my notes get blurry here ;) but everyone was immediately rescued from this auditory waterboarding by the team at traid who entrusted with now filling the new book cases.

Some of the tiles elicited some risque laughs from our Goodgymmers (we'll always have ISBN-13: ‎ 979-8467193809) but the less we speak of that, the better.

We then wrapped up with some full length mirror selfies and off we went into the night in search of further Ks for Strava by David, and a second task of the evening for everyone else. We were in such good moods, no one even mentioned the diluvial rain.
