Filling our step count

Thursday 21st September 2023

Written by Sarah

Over 5km in 90 minutes we filled our step count delivering letters to residents who live around the Run Festival Leicester Half Marathon route, which is a non profit event to support LOROS hospice. We delivered about 200 letters working as a team, picking the best weather we've had all week. Kim also walked to the session and I cycled about 18 miles.

Fantastic efforts weldone team, shout out to Kim on her 4th Goodgym Good deed and Nick for making it to every event this week so far, weldone.

Run Leicester Festival is coming to town!

Tuesday 12th September 2023

3 Goodgymmers braved the drizzle to deliver letters to people living in the Thurmaston area of the Leicester Half Marathon route to raise awareness of the event that is an entirely not-for-profit event that raises money for LOROS.

Lindsay and Stu are not new to this game they very quicky got through the letters. Lindsay brought her wooden spoon to help push the piece of paper through, fantastic idea to protect your fingers.

Weldone both, great to hear Stu has came 1st in his catergory at the last 3 races he's done including one in Wales, good luck for Leicester Half Stu!

Half mara-fun!

Sunday 31st October 2021

Written by Huw Davies

What a morning out on the Leicester Half Marathon course! In conditions that can only be described as wetter than a submarine's numberplate we were out helping the smooth "running" of the event.

Jen and Huw were out early getting the signage up in our section from Watermead Park to Red Hill Circle. Then we were joined by Katy and Nicola for some very wet marshalling!

Fantastic to see 1,620 runners splashing their way through our section including GoodGymmers Jimmy, Mel, Daniel, Sheila and Michaela K.

Taking photos wasn't easy in the heavy rain so thanks to Nicola who has kindly provided one once she was safely back in the dry (and one of Huw's backside disappearing off into the distance on two wheels), airing her GG shirt once again!

Great work!

Triple treat

Tuesday 26th October 2021

Written by Huw Davies

The conclusion of our leafleting trilogy for LOROS ahead of the Leicester Half Marathon this Sunday.

We returned to Belgrave Road to complete the streets we didn't manage last time due to running out of leaflets. Now armed with 1,000 further information sheets notifying residents of the road closures in place for the race, we raced up and down the streets at a phenomenal pace, completing the task at 7pm and 18 seconds - the best laid plans! And no rain this week either!

The evening had started in disaster, Jen and Stu had gone for a pre-task litter pick and bundled in late having lost Stu's phone! More of the team were armed with wooden spoons to aid the leaflet insertion process, Dave sped things up by acting as a specialist leaflet folder which became a popular tactic when the last road turned into a race to the end!

The Diwali lights and decorations up on Belgrave Road provided a stunning backdrop for our evening's work and the night finished on a high when a return to the scene of the crime managed to uncovered Stu's phone in a pile of leaves!

All's well that ends well!

Off we go to St Matthew's next week for a lovely gardening/planting task. Don't forget your head torches and something bright and visible to wear!
