Junior Parkrun

Sunday 21st January

Written by Vicky Hearson (she/her)

We had a good turnout of volunteers to support our younger runners.

Many then headed off to support the Brass Monkey round the corner afterwards. Another busy day!

Supporting the next generation of runners

Sunday 7th January

Written by Vicky Hearson (she/her)

We had a great turnout of volunteers to support the first Junior Parkrun of the year.

Ed got everyone warmed up with his swim themed warm up. We then had lots of marshalls cheering and encouraging, then Vicky at the end to hand out the tokens.

Some of us then headed off to another task via Vicky's for a coffee refuel.

Not just a token gesture; second time lucky for parkrun juniors

Sunday 2nd January 2022

Written by Debs Sharpe

Sunday dawned bright and sunny for our second day of parkrun volunteering this year. 18 GG'ers joined 16 regular and Duke of Edinburgh's Award volunteers to make a bumper crop of helpers for Knavesmire Juniors. Good job as we had a bumper crop of runners! 90 4-14 year olds made their way out and back along the 2km course, cheered, guided and supported by the many high-vis heroes.

Times were kept, cones marshalled, funnels managed, tokens distributed and tails walked, all in the sunshine. then we packed away and assembled for a giant group photo. Let's hope that the weather and numbers are this good when we're back in 3 weeks time.

(Apologies to mini Leadbetter who may have accidentally been accused of playing with the finish funnel cones, when it was that naughty Panders all along. Another rendition of "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" required next week to make up for your misbehaving Mr P. That angelic face is fooling nobody.)

Run junior parkrun run

Sunday 23rd February 2020

Written by Craig

What a fantastic way to start your Sunday, up early for a jog/run/cycle across town. Spend time celebrating, encouraging and supporting our next generation in their running, all while social networking with other GG Yorkies and the wider running community in York.

10 Yorkies woke up early with a rise and shine ready for the weekly cheer fest that is junior parkrun. This event has become a staple for many Yorkies and we really enjoy being able to support such a great community.

Many will already know of/be involved in parkrun but without it's weekly volunteers it simple cannot run. Each week Knavesmire juniors put out a plea for help and Goodgym's support is always very appreciated.

If you haven't joined us before and wondered what's involved then come and have a chat with one of us at a Monday group run. We'd love to keep supporting Knavesmire juniors with regular community missions.

See you bright and early next Sunday.
