Woking GoodGym: sprinting to make a clean sweep at Woking foodbank!

Woking Report written by Rebecca McAlees

What a fantastic turn out for the mission at Woking Foodbank as 13 GoodGymers turned up to do a deep clean. The Foodbank is one of our regular and most popular missions where we usually clean the floors and wipe the surfaces. But Kirsty had the great idea to do a deep clean of all the shelves and fridge etc. Because there were so many of us it didn't take too long and we ended the evening with the traditional photo on the staircase. A massive cheer to Rob and Stephanie for their second mission with Woking GoodGym and to Julie for reaching 50 good deeds. We can't wait to see you in the black t-shirt Julie. Also a massive well done to Luan who ran non-stop from the Foodbank back to the meeting point at the leisure centre after a break in running. You are officially a runner now Luan.

Common People ๐ŸŒด

Woking Report written by Wayne

*Millmoor Common *

This mornings outdoor task was part of GG's x WWF Work Out In Nature calibration. ๐ŸŒŽ

Big welcome to Jemma who joined us for her first GG task, hopefully the first of many ๐Ÿ˜€

Wayne & Luan met up with Jemma & Charlie and his volunteers from We Act ๐ŸŒŽ at a new location Millmoor Common in Old Woking.

Todays task was to find an area which could be turned over to so wild flowers could be seeded and hopefully grow ๐Ÿ˜€

Charlie as always brought all the tools that were required to carry out the task. The area was marked out and then we all git stuck in pulling out the weeds and turning over the soil. Millmoor Common is prone to flooding and the common itself is quite large and the spot we found would be one of many.

Luan who loves an outdoor task was telling us how she has been getting out and running regularly even doing a 6k run last week, keep up the good work.

After an hours work of clearing the area we all scattered the wildflower seeds that Charlie had brought, we then moved over to the other side of the common to find another suitable area. Before we started to dig up a well deserved coffee and biscuits were given out. Once fueled up we got stuck in and in no time had the 2nd site ready for the seeds to be scattered ๐Ÿ˜€

What a great morning doing this great task ๐ŸŒŽ

I didnโ€™t come here to play ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

Woking Report written by Woking runner

There was a great turnout this evening for some litter picking around the streets of Woking. ๐Ÿšฎ

Upon everybodyโ€™s prompt arrival, and a brief chat, Anne uncovered the brand new litter pickers which everyone got very excited about.๐Ÿ—‘

Then, passing the adventure park, the team noticed a lot of litter so in they went, but not to play! ๐Ÿ›

The group turned off out of Woking Park and carried on up White Rose Lane then ended up at the central flats.

High up on the tally seemed to be beer cans, beer caps, and cigarette butts, so it was a good thing to remove these things which impact our environment and wildlife. Great job team!

The ladies finished off with a gentle run back to the park and finally bade their farewells for the night leaving Woking a cleaner place.

After all, we don't mess about!

Bloom With Laughter ๐ŸŒน

Woking Report written by Wayne

St John's Lye Woodland

Todays task was the first of three Goodgym x WWF Workout In Nature tasks.

This morning Wayne, Anne, Luan, & Rebecca were joined by Lizeth from WWF on her first task (Big Welcome Lizeth) ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wayne & Luan came staright from junior park run, while Anne ran to the task along the canal. Rebecca who is currently training for a mammoth bike ride up in Scotland cycled to the task to get some extra training in ๐Ÿšฒ. We all met at the car park where Hayden from We Act ๐ŸŒ went through the risk assessment then Charlie went through what we were going to do, which was clear an area to expose the soil to see if it was good enough to grow some wild flowers ๐ŸŒน.

We all set off along the scenic route deep into the woods (1O Min Walk) We arrived at a clearing which we cleared a few weeks ago. with a string we marked the area by creating a border and with tools in hand we started to turn over the soil. It was tough as there were many roots but we soon made light work of it.

Lizeth was really get stuck in and was really enjoying the task as was Luan who loves an outdoor task ๐Ÿ˜Š. Rebecca was telling us about the up coming GG Shindig in the Midlands which will be her 2nd year going cant wait to hear all about it.

In no time we had cleared the area and planted the wild lowers these will be monitored by We Act ๐ŸŒ over the coming months.

Hopefully we will see more of Lizeth at more GG Tasks ๐Ÿ˜Š
