RUNNING for (the) FOOD (bank).

Woking Report written by Woking runner

Jemma was the first to reach the Food Bank, followed by Karen and Anne who ran there from the Leisure Centre. Karen and Anne started with dusting the many shelves while Jemma tackled the big fridge.

Nadia came from work in London, and without hesitation reached for Henry the hoover and vacuumed the aisles with dexterity. At that moment Morgan, whose mission was her first, came in from the cold. We all stopped to welcome Morgan and asked her to follow Karen's lead!

Morgan had signed up to GoodGym in South London but had not managed to get involved. We are all delighted to have her as part of our Woking GG team!

Alison, the manager, told us that the food bank will be moving in January while the present building will be demolished. The new temporary premises will be in Church Path where the "old" night club used to be.

With so many hands all the jobs were done and we gathered on the steps for our monthly photo!

Two Reports For The Price Of One

Woking Report written by Olalekan Taiwo

**First Report By Olalekan

On Sunday morning, I volunteered as a Marshall at the Woking Junior Parkrun. I arrived early to help set up the course and was given a briefing about my position and responsibilities. My main task was to guide and encourage the runners, make sure they followed the correct route, and report any issues to the Run Director.

During the event, I stood at my designated point on the course, cheering on the children and offering encouragement as they ran past. It was great to see so many young runners taking part and enjoying themselves. I also made sure the path was clear and safe for everyone.

After the final runner passed, I collected the course signs near my position and helped pack them away. The whole experience was very positive โ€” it was rewarding to support the event and help the children stay motivated and safe. I would definitely be happy to volunteer again in the future.

2nd Report By Karen

Following a last-minute appeal to parents and carers, we were able to go ahead with the parkrun โ€” we had been two volunteers short at the start. In total, 134 runners took part, supported by 23 wonderful volunteers.

Among them were two GoodGymers, Ola and Karen, who sadly didnโ€™t manage to spot each other on the day. With the colder weather now here, our red T-shirts tend to be hidden under coats, which makes meeting a bit more challenging. To be fair, Ola braved it in a T-shirt, so weโ€™re still not sure how Karen missed that!

Despite the chill, it was a great morning and an enjoyable run for everyone involved โ€” runners and volunteers alike.

Winter is running...

Woking Report written by Woking runner

It was definitely an autumnal park run this morning, with one of the HG members wearing her gloves to marshal.

There were 3 of us, Anne, Laura and Karen โ€ฆsituated at different points around the course.Despite the chill there was a good turn out of runners and as usual a great atmosphere.

This is a wonderful opportunity for children to start running, almost as soon as they can walk and such a fun volunteering role for us.

Supporting Volunteering greatness

Woking Report written by Adam

On Sunday, the Sun was shining and in the morning it was warning up nicely for 18 ยฐC. Adam, on his way, called James traveling to volunteer for junior parkrun to see if he wanted a coffee? It turns out James wasn't signed up to volunteer for junior parkrun but lucky never says no to a coffee. So with coffee in hand James and Adam make it to the bandstand so register with the parkrun director, where James was given the role as equipment manager. Both James and Adam court up with the other GoodGymers, Wayne and Karen who had already arrived and were dressed with their Junior parkrun hi-vis's clearly happy to be a Hi-Vis heros ๐Ÿ˜€. With the introduction of Junior Parkrun number 319 the run director gave everyone the rules and guidelines after giving the awards for some youngesters achieving running milestones, an extra special award was given. Becky a run director, and an essential organizer who gives her time time to coordinating and liaising all things concerned with Woking junior parkrun had reached her 500th volunteer credit, an incredible accomplishment ๐Ÿ˜. Once she received her flowers, the warm up crew started and not long after the count down to head to the start line began. Karen went to her marshal point 1, next to Wayne at marshal 2. Adam went to point 7 just where the path turns right going down hill towards the ponds. And James stayed near the bandstand keeping an eye on vital equipment. The run started well with all the children making a quick start towards the pathway. As the sun was warning things up well, the children were ready to run fast. After 7 minutes 23 seconds the first runner, George completed both laps. It took another 22 seconds before the next finisher crossed the line! Wayne said goodbye as he had been relieved from his position and was making way home, and it pasted Adam's marshaling point. After the last runner came in, the total number of runners was 159, what a great turn out. Well done all Woking GoodGymers on a task completed well ๐Ÿ˜„
