Even trees need social distancing

Woking Report written by Alys Penfold (she/her)

Just the two of us! Tonight, Julie & I (Alys) headed over to St Markโ€™s Church in Kingsfield to help out at their newly established community garden.

The hawthorn trees planted to create some lovely hedges were feeling a bit suffocated by grass and other small plants sharing their soil.

We spent an hour and a half with garden forks and spades getting as rid as many of the weeds as possible to leave behind a neat soil strip giving the saplings lots of much needed space.

I obtained some injuries - an ant bite to the calf and a speck of soil in the eye but this didnโ€™t slow us down!

We managed to slip in some strength training too by taking turns carrying the waste over to the compost heap.

They are looking for regular volunteers to help maintain the garden - so if you have an hour to spare on a Wednesday morning, make sure to get in touch with Rosemary at St Markโ€™s.

Great write up Alys, I hope youโ€™ve recovered from those pesky ants. Great to see this community garden taking shape.

Making space for new growth - weeding and removing grass from newly planted hedge

Our gardening team isn't yet big enough to be able to do all this ourselves, but this will give the plants the best chance of surviving!

All Aboard Club ๐Ÿš‚

This morning Wayne, Alys, & Julie met Richard from All Aboard Club at Brookwood Halls to help build the big train track for the kids to enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š.

We were joined by a few other volunteers from local organisations. We Helped unload the car and between us took ll the crates into the hall and strategically placed them around.

Alys & Julie started to place the chairs around the hall for the parents then it was time to build. We all started in different area's and started to lay the tracks. within 30 mins the track was looking great. The track had plenty of loops and turns it must of been one of the most technical and interesting tracks we had done, it looked great.

This coming Wednesday we will be doing a leaflet drop around the Goldsworth Park Area for Sam Beare Hospice ๐Ÿ˜Š
