Half marathon, full effort

Woking Report written by Rebecca McAlees

What a spectacular event which brings the running community of Surrey together each year with an opportunity to run a half marathon, 5k or vounteer, including a kids race.

The morning started rather fresh but the sun burst through the clouds to brighten up the day for the runners and the many supporters along the route.

Woking GoodGym were out in force with Anne deserving a gold medal for all the medals she handed out to the finishers. It is always a joy to see Anne as you cross the finish line. James ran with Woking AC and smashed a finishing time of 1:36:51.

Adam managed to crack the sub 2hrs that many runners aspire to with a finish time of 1:57:22.

Melanie did a great job cheering all the way around and finishing in 2:09:25 closely followed by

Rebecca at 2:11:10. A big thank you to Maya for cheering us along for the final push with 1.5k to go. Another thank you to the spectators, especially all the funny signs, the scouts for operating the water/fuel stations and the Woking litter picking warriors who make the most of the closed road event to help clean up the community.

A wonderful day all round. Same again next year?!

A GoodGym nest-egg of kindness

Woking Report written by Rebecca McAlees

What a wonderful task organised by Julie, who kindly provided all the paint, paintbrushes, pots, tablecloths and even drinks and snacks.

It proved to be a popular task as there was a good turn out from the Woking GoodGym gang to paint bird boxes for Knaphill Lower School. We were given a wooden bird box to unleash our creative painting talents. Becky and Anne shared a box, and went with a very practical camouflage design, as did Julie and Kirsty who went with a beautiful shade of blue plus a cheerful yellow sun.

Nadia did GoodGym proud by not only painting a colourful box but also bringing along a friend for January in the form of her mum who is a good painter as demonstrated by her berry design. Adam ran to the task now he is getting back into running in time to paint a colourful red and blue box.

Ola showed his creative talent by using masking tape for his design. Vicky from the PTA popped along to see our hard work and explained 20 bird boxes will be placed along a trail for the lower school children to try to spot them all.

Vicky's son picked Stephanie's as the the best painted bird box, which was well deserved, as she was able to combine a practical but stylish design of green leaves.

Hole lot of running

Woking Report written by Rebecca McAlees

Rebecca, Anne andAlys took part in the awesome annual Doughnut Dash organised by Phoenix Running Club.

It involves 5.3k out and back laps along the river Thames and at the end of each lap you get a doughnut! The event is informal and friendly and participants can start when they want between 7am and 8.30am and finish when they want before 3pm.

Becky started just after 7am with the first lap in the dark but the opportunity to see a lovely sunrise.

After a brief break to take her nephews to the playground to let her sister run, she clocked up 4 laps (21k). Anne did a superb job and clocked up 15k over 3 laps. and Alys smashed through 2 laps.

We all enjoyed our doughnuts and giant doughnut shaped medals, which to be honest were the two main reasons we were there running up and down the Thames in freezing cold January weather.

Christmas Calories Don't Count 🎄

Woking Report written by Wayne

Woking GG Xmas Meal 🎅🏽

Goodgym Woking members got together for a Xmas meal last night at Zizzi's 🍕.

What a great turn out last night was it was fantastic to see so many turn up to celebrate a great year together as Woking GG.

Firstly big thank you to Nadia who organised the venue 👏🏻.

Karen arrived first as she was already in town helping out at another local charity 😇 followed by Wayne. The table setting was impressive full of Crackers and decorations 🎗. Adam then arrived without his crutches which was great to see, still not back to 💯 but recovering well. Adam was telling us about his house move last weekend and how grateful he was to his fellow goodgymers who assisted his 😄 Caterina arrived shortly after looking very glam and sparkly ❈. Karen was telling us about her up and coming trip to India 🇮🇳 traveling around for a month just after Xmas, sounds amazing. As the conversation was flowing Kirsty & Bryan arrived followed by Melanie he had come straight from work. Stephanie arrived followed by Julie everyone was looking very festive 🎄. Just behind Anne arrived wearing her GG Shirt as well as her red tutu ❤️ Nadia & Andy arrived followed by Alys who had brough us all little choco treats ❤️. And finally Rebecca arrived straight off the train. It was great hearing about Rebecca 1/2 marathon that she did in New York 🗽 few weekends ago.

Now that everyone had arrived we could order food and drink. Plenty of food was ordered from Pizza's to Risotto's To Pasta dishes everything looked and tasted great.

All in all it was a great night celebrating a great year with fantastic people. ❤️

Shout out again to Nadia, who willingly (I think) arranged this social event for everyone. Great to see everyone looking fancy, and those of you who were unable to make it, you were missed. Merry Christmas 🎄
