I want to see you paint it, paint it white!

Tue 26 Jul

Hanwell Community Centre has a great tradition of hosting rehearsal space for famous 70s rock bands. But the next generation will be taking over soon as the Community Centre builds a new community music studio. The rockers n rollers of GoodGym Ealing were on hand with air guitar paintbrushes and paint tin drums to freshen up the basement room with a coat or so of white. We'll be back soon to finish off the ceiling and have the place looking fab four hits!

Prep n paint a community music studio

Tue 26 Jul 18:30 pm
Bodyline Studio, 5-6 Spring Bridge Mews, Ealing, W5 2AB
Bringing arts to the community

Hanwell Community Centre plays a proud role in the arts, from being the school that Charlie Chaplin attended, to being a rehearsal venue for the likes of Deep Purple, Led Zepplin and The Who in the 1970s.

GoodGym is supporting this fine tradition. We'll be helping to prep and paint a room in the basement for which the Community Centre have equipment to create a community music studio!

What to bring:

  • Painting clothes - it's fine to get paint on your GoodGym t-shirt but wear other old clothes if you can
  • Water - it could be thirsty work
  • Only bring what you can run with - there's NO bag drop at the start

The Run:

  • The run is 2 miles to the task only (we'll make our own way home from the task), leaving outside Bodyline Studio at 6.30pm sharp
  • All paces will be catered for
  • If running isn't your thing, you can meet us at 7.00pm at Hanwell Community Centre (Google Maps), comment below if you're running from BodyLine Studio or meeting us there

Final (probably!) run to help young trees along the River Brent to thrive!

Tue 5 Jul 18:30 pm
Bodyline Studio, 5-6 Spring Bridge Mews, Ealing, W5 2AB
A physical task and lovely run to one of Ealing's green spaces!

We've been down to this site quite a few times over the months to help the The William Hobbayne Charity maintain 'The Severed Land' (see below for the history of this) where new trees were planted a few years ago. Cutting back the overgrowth around the young trees will give them space to thrive for years to come!

As well as helping a community project, you'll also get a lovely run through some green spaces and head into the evening having helped out and got some exercise too, all the good stuff!

What to bring:

  • Gloves - the gardening kind if you have them!
  • Water - it could be thirsty work
  • Only bring what you can run with - there's NO bag drop at the start

The Run:

  • The run is 2 miles each way (but you're welcome to just run there and make your own way back!), leaving Bodyline at 6.30pm
  • All paces will be catered for
  • If running isn't your thing, you can meet us at 7:10pm at The William Hobbayne Centre (Google Maps), comment below if you're meeting us there

And a bit of background to the history of this land:

'When the Greater London Council realigned the River Brent as part of a flood alleviation scheme in the 1980s the new position cut through the Billets Hart allotments. As a consequence what had originally been the river bed became the Charity's land in exchange for the allotment land that had been lost. The Fitzherbert Walk footpath from Uxbridge Road to the Grand Union Canal near The Fox Public House passes through this piece of land, which is part of the Brent River Park. Where the path passes over the Charity's land it is a 'Permissive Path' and not a Public Right of Way. The Charity are now managing the land in an environmentally-friendly way to improve bio-diversity and for the enjoyment of the many walkers who pass through it and are proud to be improving our local landscape.'

Mucking about and dishing the dirt!

Tue 21 Jun

What a lovely sunny evening it was! Some of us ran, some walked but we all met at the William Hobbayne Community Gardens. This a great community project of allotments in Hanwell near the Grand Union Canal. Our task was to shift soil into three new beds where children will learn how plants grow. The beds will be named after those who have given time and care over the years. So, we huffed and we puffed and we got stuck in! Many hands indeed made light work. A final layer of top soil and the job was done! Great stuff GoodGym (and a special welcome to Lesley on her first task)!

Group run to help young trees along the canal continue to thrive!

Tue 21 Jun 18:45 pm
Bodyline Studio, 5-6 Spring Bridge Mews, Ealing, W5 2AB
A physical task and lovely run in Ealing's green spaces!

Tonight we'll be lending the The William Hobbayne Charity a hand maintaining land near the canal where new trees were planted a few years ago.

This task helps to protect the saplings that have been planted along the canal under the trees for cities campaign. Cutting back the overgrowth around the young trees will give them space to thrive for years to come!

As well as helping a community project you'll also get a lovely run through some green spaces and head into the evening having helped out and got some exercise too, all the good stuff!

What to bring:

  • Gloves - the gardening kind if you have them!
  • Water - it could be thirsty work
  • Only bring what you can run with - there will NOT be a bag drop at the start

The Run:

  • The run will be 2 miles each way
  • All paces will be catered for and we'll have a back marker
  • If you only want to run one way that's cool, just let us know below in the comments below
  • If running isn't your thing, you can meet us at 7:10pm at The William Hobbayne Centre (Google Maps), comment below if you're meeting us there

Put a sock in it!

Tue 31 May
Report written by Harvey Gallagher

That's right, put a sock in the bin bag, when you find a couple of sets out litter picking on Ealing Common! The best news of the night was that we avoided the rain - hurray! The intrepid GoodGym Ealing team skipped along Ealing Common, we even got a clap from a man in a pub - now how about that! And thanks to Claire for the pun.

(oh, and we sent for pizza afterwards, well you have to treat yourself sometimes, don't you?!)

Liv a little

Tue 3 May
Report written by Ealing runner

On a mild spring evening, GoodGymers from far and wide descended on Walpole Park in Ealing. Our mission, to shovel woodchip, mulch beds and celebrate Liv's last task as our great leader!

Tonight we welcomed Branwen to the group for her first GoodGym session. She was great and instantly felt like she's been a member of the group for years!

After some silly warm up games and a little run and walk through Ealing's finest green spaces we soon had shovels in hand and wheelbarrows at the ready. We tackled the task in two group on opposite sides of the park.

Adam said the night had 'top bantz!' what more could we ask for?!

Milly was having so much fun dancing around between shoveling that she fell down the mulch heap. Even topper bantz!

The task flew by and before we knew it Liv was subjecting us to her last fitness session which of course finished with Sally Squats!

We ended up in Brewdog to share food, drink and memories. The best of bantz!

Thanks Liv, we’ll miss you very mulch!

Bodyline Studio, 5-6 Spring Bridge Mews, Ealing, W5 2AB
Join us for a group run and community task in Ealing - plus a cheeky fitness session too!

This week we'll be meeting at 6:45pm at Bodyline Studios to go for a group run or walk to help with a lots of physical outdoor tasks in Walpole Park!

The Task:

Think pushing barrows of mulch around, digging, and shifting lots of woodchip. It'll be a great workout for sure! Please bring gloves if you have them otherwise all tools will be provided.

The Run/Walk:

The run/walk will be suitable for all abilities, we'll do a longer route around the parks for those who are up for it and a shorter walking option too. Basically, if you want to run or walk at whatever pace you'll be catered for!

Fitness session:

We'll also sneak in a little fitness session after the task, it'll be a quick 10 minute blast leaving us well and truly glowing for the evening!

Liv's Final GoodGym!

I have spent 5 wonderful years leading GoodGym in Ealing but the time has come for me to hang up my trainers and lead GoodGym for the final time! I'm not going anywhere and will definitely still be involved but this will be the last session I lead as the Trainer for GoodGym and would love to see as many of you there as possible. We'll be going to the pub afterwards so please do come along for a drink too.

Sign up for the pub after here - we've booked a table so it would be good to know numbers!
