A massive congratulations to our caped crusader Rachel who reached 200 good deeds this evening and wore the 200th good deed cape.

We were back to Lakeside this evening to help with the first 5k of the series. Lucy, Jen, Katie and Jo met up early and warmed up by running a lap around the lake, discussing great names for dogs, rabbits and children.

Once our warm up lap was complete, we met with Mel, Vicki and Rachel and donned our high vis vests and were busy on registration duties. Most runners knew their numbers but if they didn’t Lucy was on hand with the list and providing they knew their name we could then give them the correct number. Safety pins were available but were a limited supply so kept tightly under guard.

We were refreshed with a drink from Starbucks and Jo may have set the trend by ordering a Caramel Macchiato which went down okay with others. The high sugar content of the caramel may decide how late people fall asleep this evening.

Due to an accident on the local roads several runners turned up very close to the starting time and were slightly panicked and worried that they’d miss the start. Thankfully most managed to get here on time and those who were late, raced and then colected their number for the next race in the series. Lucy and Jo saw one runner turning up as the race started and managed to give him his number as the race started. Assistance was also given to one runner who was struggling with his pins and number and Lucy did a fantastic job. Thankfully no skin was pierced during this call of duty.

Once the race was underway we moved to our other positions, Katie assisted with primary number checking, Jen, Mel, Vicki and Rachel managed the funnel and thankfully no vomiting happened this evening. Lucy and Jo were on the back up number checkers at the end of the funnel.

We’re back at Lakeside in a month’s time to help with the next race in the series. Sign up here.
