This week’s lockdown challenge was to see if we could run a marathon, as a relay team, over the weekend, without the reward of a medal or even a post-race banana. Seven GoodGym members took part to make this happen and managed to get it all done on the Saturday!
Leanne drew the short straw to start us off early in the morning, (or maybe she offered) setting off at 8:11am and getting the first 5km done. Rich took over contributing his leg as a bike ride (for which only a quarter of the 24.8km distance he covered counted towards our total). Next up was Andy, then David and Myself, all adding 6.2km in probably the best conditions of the day. Unfortunately the heavens decided to open for Laurie's leg leaving her drenched, but that didn’t stop Jenny getting out and finishing off the Marathon distance for us, getting home just in time for the rain to stop.
In total we completed the distance with an elapsed time of 7 hours and 23 minutes and a moving time of 6 hours, 31 minutes and 17 seconds. Well done everyone!!! It was a great Saturday and a lovely way to all connect and do a joint activity at a time when we cannot run together. Maybe next time we’ll see if we can cover 100km in a day, we might need a few more people for that though!!!
