The weather wasn’t looking great - strong winds and sideways rain - which appeared to worsen as we arrived for junior parkrun.

But as soon as everyone set off, the sun suddenly made an appearance. That’s the power of parkrun for you!

61 juniors joined us today, including four new parkrunners - hello and welcome to Maya, Yusef, Isobel and Adam! We hope you enjoyed your first junior parkrun.

Six runners got a PB today - well done to Isla, Arlo, Ezra, Eleanor, Hugo and Toby.

Jennifer has started a new challenge too - who can create the best ‘curve’ at the start of the course?! She asked the timekeepers to ‘judge her curve!’ I have to say it was very impressive and has set the benchmark for a starting curve which we shall judge all future curves against.

I had the pleasure of being marshal on ‘high-five hill’ today where I witnessed some fantastic running to get up the short hill on an otherwise flat course.

I was joined by many a parent encouraging their kids around the course - you’d all make fantastic Marshals, so why not consider volunteering one week?

Junior parkrun couldn’t go ahead without all the fantastic volunteers - so a HUGE thank you to Jennifer, our Run Director this week, Alice, Anne, Becs, Cameron, David, Fred, Georgina, Harrier, James, Jessica, Katie J, Katie T, Liz, Matthew, Phil Rhiannon, Rich, Richard, Sarah, Steve, Sumah, Vicky, Victoria, Wayne and William.

A special shout out for Fred who has volunteered 258 times - wow! And to David who still came along to volunteer today on his birthday - extra cake for you David!

On the GoodGym front we had James , Anne Katie Wayne Victoria Richard and myself - as well as honorary members Phil and Sumah. Always a great turn-out from the Woking contingent!

Don’t be scared to come and try out one of the many volunteer positions. We’re a friendly bunch, all the volunteer positions are easy to pick-up and a joy to do - you’ll be provided with all the information and equipment you need to take part. It’s a wonderful way to start a Sunday morning.

If your child is taking part in junior parkrun and you were planning to come and watch anyway, you could easily help out. You could be the marshal in position #1, so you can head over to the finish as soon as the tail walker has passed you on their second lap, or the last position so you can see your child cross the finish line. Or you deliver our first timer’s briefing at 8.50 so you can still go out and watch on the course, or help pack-down afterwards so you don’t miss out on any of the action. Pop an email to wokingjuniors@parkrun.com in the lead-up to Sunday to sign-up, or if you follow Woking junior parkrun on Facebook, you can comment on the post that usually goes out on a Wednesday or Thursday asking for volunteers.

Hope to see you next week!
