York Tiny Forest

Goodgym have been involved in creating a tiny forest on Kimberlow Hill near York University (Sports Village end).

The trees are fast becoming self-sufficient, but a blanket of woodchip mulch will keep their roots cosy during the winter. There's always some pesky weeds to be eliminated, to prevent competition for the soil nutrients and to allow the tree roots to flourish. Cardboard edging to be laid to supress weeds. There's compost to dig over. The bathtub pond may need a little care to keep it attractive for wildlife. Plus whatever other little tree care tasks you might spot.

At the end of the tasks b(around 2.30) there's likely to be a social catch up, flasks of hot drinks, some snacks/cake and general appreciation of nature and the trees.

Bring gloves and footwear for muddy ground (and a contribution to the picnic snack). If possible depending on your mode of transport it would be helpful to bring tools (eg trowel, spade)
