That's Not My Bagless, Baby

Kash and Sevan were pleased to see Mrs L again, more than a year after their last visit. They remembered that she was a keen gardener and proud of her garden, always giving them her experience on the best approach to take.

There were 2 main tasks for today's visit, to move a shrub from a flower bed into a pot and to clear the dead flower heads of the peony bushes, which were laying all around her garden. The peony pick up was a job that Kash and Sevan did last year too.

Kash took the broom and rake to tidy up the flower heads and Sevan used the fork to get the shrub out of the ground, which didn't take long. Mrs L then gave the apprentices a lesson in replanting, taking control of the situation herself while Sevan sat and watched her stab at the dry, old soil to free the roots. In the meantime, Kash had filled a bag of garden waste.

Next, Mrs L had a surprise task. Her arthritis meant that she couldn't clean her bagless hoover properly and without any other visitors in the next couple of weeks, asked the GoodGymers to help out. Out came some small waste bags, with Mrs L complaining that bagless hoovers needed to be emptied into plastic bags which was bad for the environment. Gone were the days of disposable paper hoover bags, she lamented.

Sevan got on with emptying the hoover's waste canister and cleaning the filter. Once he was done, Mrs L appeared with a second canister, leaving Sevan wondering why she needed 2 hoovers in a small flat 🤷.

Being at a loose end, Kash found an adventure to go on. There was ivy coming over Mrs L's fence from a nearby garage, so Kash climbed into a narrow path between fence and garage to lop any ivy that she could reach. Sevan then had a go too, thinking that his extra height would be an advantage in reaching the garage roof. Instead he found 4 thick roots at ground level that looked to be the source of the invasion. With those cut, back in the garden the pair prised the glued on ivy branches off the fence and bagged them to round off the mission.
