It was a sunny bank holiday in Wandsworth last night, but that didn’t stop 26 GoodGymers meeting for a very hot run to do good in their neighbourhood!

Firstly we welcomed some new faces – give a massive cheer to Mo, Anna, Gill and Iain who all came for their first group run!

  • There has been some great racing over the weekend. Well done Helen who ran 10k on the Severn Bridge, and Oliver who did a hot and hilly 10k in Greenwich Park.

  • Fancy the Clapham Race for Life 10k at 11am on 29th September for a reduced price? Then let me know and I’ll pass on the code to book.

Next week we have our home at the BAC back again – thanks for your patience while we haven’t had a proper meeting point, and a special thanks to all of you who brought your cars for us to store our bags while we’ve been out on the runs!

It was a special night yesterday, not only because so many of you decided to spend your sunny holiday doing good for others, but because we had partnered up with I Am Team GB for The Nation’s Biggest Sports Day. The run was one of many going on across the country aimed at getting people active and involved in their community.

It was also

Luke’s 100th good deed! Amazing work, thanks for all your hard work Luke – next time you see him he might be wearing his brand new wings tshirt so give him a high five!

In a massive coincidence we were back at where it all began for Luke, at his first ever task. It was also Sian’s year anniversary, so there were all sorts of celebrations to be had!

After a 2km run we were met by Colette, the headteacher of Chistchurch school in Battersea, with two big jobs to do. It was amazing to see the huge transformation the garden has undergone since the last time we were there to prep the space. It couldn't have been more different, given the last time we were there was a freezing night at the beginning of the year digging the hard ground, and this time we were bathed in sunshine planting a beautiful new hedge.

While the greenfingered GGers got busy weeding, digging and planting, the second group grabbed wheelbarrows and trugs and headed over to the massive pile of bricks that needed shifting into the garden ready to be turned into raised beds. It was hard going and a good upper body work out, but after half an hour of work both jobs were done and dusted. Colette was really pleased as she thought we'd only get one of the jobs done, so it was fantastic to be able to finish them both. Well done!

Given it was The Nation's Biggest Sports Day we headed over to the park to do a quick themed fitness session. It started off with a game of Chase the Hare, which saw Luke being the hare and Jordan doing an amazing job of (very almost) chasing him down. We then moved on to a relay with different legs, including wheelbarrows and a four legged race. It was obviously Luke's night as he led his team to glory, but the other teams came in very close!

With just a short run back, we knocked out a hill sprint and finished the night with stretches and a special Monday memento. Next week we need as many people as possible to help with a massive painting job, so spread the word and sign up here. Have a week of happy running!
