Despite the less than pretty weather, an amazing group of GoodGymers, led by Lorna, headed out to lend a hand at Age UK in Wandsworth.
After a warm up the group ran up to the Gwyneth Morgan Day Centre for older people, a lovely local resource which offers vulnerable and older people physical disability specialist day services and aims to maximise people’s independence by providing support and activities, community-based outreach work and help to become digitally connected.
They have a fleet of buses they use to transport their users to the centre and they asked us to come and help them out by giving them a good wash so they are spick and span for our lovely local residents.
The team got to work with gloves, sponges, buckets and soapy water giving it some proper elbow greaseand bus-ting moves to transform the vehicles. Well done everybody, great work!
Don't forget there is an extra opportunity tomorrow to help out an environmental clothes charity tomorrow, and next Monday we'll be popping up to Paradise to help out this great community space. Until then, have a great week all!

It was the first of our monthly trips to help out at Doddington community roof garden last night, and after a brief discussion about whether it was going to snow or not at the beginning of the night, little did we know what we really should have been ready for...the rain. Cold, wet rain....
Still, it didn't hold us back. We did our warm up and had a quick discussion on food we can't stand which included all the classics - mushrooms, beetroot, and anchovies. After a 2km run down to the garden we arrived and Malissa quickly went through all the jobs that needed to be done. The joy of coming back on a regular basis is that we can see the garden evolve and grow, we start to know the tasks that need to be done and when, and we can really see the difference we are making.
The main job was digging so we divided up into groups to tackle the removal of soil so that when the compost arrives this weekend it can go straight in. If you fancy a great upper body work out and massively helping out at the garden, then on Saturday morning at 11am we have a massive task carrying up no fewer than 800 bags of compost donated by the council. Hope to see as many as possible of you there!
Meanwhile, there were several other tasks being completed elsewhere, including giving a buddleia bush a good pruning, moving several plants in the St John's Wort family, and spreading woodchip. We also moved many, many trugs - more of a challenge than we had expected given they had no handles and the rain made them really slippery.
By this point we had achieved a lot but we were thoroughly wet and becoming uncomfortably chilly so we decided to call it a night. We were determined not to finish without any fitness at all though, so Sophie led the group in a token squat session before we headed off.
Some of us went on to do a fun pub quiz where very weirdly two separate GG teams ended up with the exact same score of 103 points, coming joint third. That's a little sprinkling of GG magic right there.
Next week the task is yet to be confirmed but we will be having a session as normal so watch this space. Have a great week GoodGym, and stay warm!

It was great to see some new faces at GoodGym Wandsworth last night - so a huge welcome to Emily, Adam and Fadia!
There was a definite chill in the air last night so we got straight on with a warm up for both body and brain. First we got our muscles working with a series of high knees, heel flicks and those tricky reverse lunges before all naming a tube station that starts with the same letter as our first names. That was definitely more challenging for some of us (sorry Jordan!).
Our job for the evening was at food charity Waste Not Want Not who have big plans to refurb their headquarters to include greater services for local users, including a dining area and shower.
Unfortunately we had a bit of a wait to get access, and it was just as we decided to kill time with some wall sits that Hadas turned up to let us in - just in the nick of time!
There was plenty to do once we got inside, so we quickly got cracking shifting donations, sorting through piles of tin cans and packing up food. With such a flurry of activity the time flew by until we realised we had to go and there was no time for fitness - next time we'll do double! Great work tonight everyone, it makes a big difference at a small charity that people really rely on.
Next week we are back at Doddington garden to help with various jobs followed by our monthly pub quiz social, hope to see you there!

Today officially marks the end of the January challenge, but there is still one more day to get those good deeds in! GoodGym Wandsworth has done an amazing job - we've smashed our target of 1200 kms. We're just 12 good deeds short of our target of our 100. Why not have a look if there is something going on that you can get to today and just maybe we can make that happen!
Great to see you all in slightly warmer conditions last night. Our initial plan was to clear the garden at the brilliant Waste Not Want Not charity - an organisation which stops perfectly good food being thrown away and instead uses it to feed the local community - but Hadas had other ideas for us.
The charity has been working on a new dining area which needed to be painted. That's where we came in! Grabbing all the rollers and any tool we could lay our hands on we got cracking. Calum and Jamal took on the room next to the kitchen, Sophie, Jordan and Catherine were in the lobby, while everybody else squeezed into the kitchen area. Meanwhile Steph heroically tackled a monster pile of washing up in the kitchen.
It was another GG transformation, as within 45 minutes the place was freshly painted, looking brighter and more welcoming for local people. Way to go team.
There was just time to squeeze in some very tough but very effective tabata in the park before taking on that hill on our way back for stretches.
There's lots of fun social stuff coming up, as well as plenty of sessions to get involved in. Next week we're planning on entering (winning) a local pub quiz after our group run, all the details are here.
Have a great week GoodGym - and don't forget, one more day to reach our 100 good deed target!

It's almost the end of January and (hopefully) Spring is just around the corner, so it was definitely time for us to do one massive spring clean!
First we met at the BAC to do a warm up, and we also welcomed Eva to the group for her first run - give her a massive cheer!
Our task for the evening was at Battersea Scouts Centre, so before setting off we also did a quick poll to see who had been a scout, brownie, beaver or other. It seemed like most of us had dib dib dibbed at some point, and we discovered that we even had a Sea Cadet among us - we will definitely be calling on those skills when we need some knots to be tied!
It was a short run down to the centre and, given the freezing temperatures, we all piled gratefully into the warm to listen to Scoutmaster Peter's instructions. Quickly dispersing into various rooms we got started getting the place sparkling.
The kitchen crew of Steph, Joanna and Annabel began shining surfaces and polishing PVC, while Tim and Becky used some serious elbow grease in the lobby to make those walls and skirting boards pristine. Alice, Eva and Joao did a bang up job in the loos and changing rooms making sure everything was spotless, while upstairs the upper hall group were seriously busy. Sophie, Jordan and Lorna had the massive job of cleaning all the chairs - the only stumbling block was first figuring out how to get the much-discussed strap off. Meanwhile Jamal and Calum had the tricky task of rehanging all the curtains, using both height and muscle power to get them attached to all the many, many hooks.
Before long the place was immaculate from top to bottom, so well done everybody on a brilliant job. As Peter said, it would have taken the volunteers there ages to do what you all achieved in a short amount of time.
It's not often we get the chance to do our fitness session in the toasty warm, so we took advantage of the newly cleaned hall to do a body strength and conditioning session. It seemed like a great idea. Until we realised that the floor wasn't exactly pristine as the carpet was yet to be laid. Apologies for the dusty bums everybody! Still, we persevered, knocking out planks, press ups, crunches and more.
While we worked we discussed future socials and hatched a plan to create the greatest pub quiz team there ever was. We decided on date, with more to come, of Monday 6th February after the group run. I will put together a sign up page soon, so watch this space.
Great work everybody - next week we're helping out at Waste Not Want Not, and you can sign up for it right here. Have a great week all!
