Slide to the left, slide to the right, dig dig now y'all

10 soggy GG Yorkies arrived at Millennium Fields to meet Jonathan in the pouring rain. I think that secretly both him and us had hoped the rain might call things off, but it turns out that this was perfect weather for transplanting saplings!

St Nick's were holding a volunteer day, we were glad to be there as only one other volunteer braved the hideous weather. They've created a fab copse of silver birch, and want to plant lots of smaller trees between the tall trunks to encourage ground nesting animals to set up home there.

The necessary trees were already growing nearby, so we dug them up from a muddy, slippy, slidey bank and planted them in the copse. Sometimes we do get the impression that Jonathan sets tasks for us that involve moving things from one place to another, only to ask us to move them back 6 months later. But this plan does seem logical so we enthusiastically obliged.

About 25 trees later, it finally stopped raining, just as we packed up to head home. There was lots of talk of hot baths and cups of tea, followed by photos of everyone's wet muddy kit waiting to be washed for the next task.
