The turbulent weather may have put a lot of people off, but three determined GoodGymers made it out to Hilsea Station to bring new life to our newly adopted planter.
The spring daffodils were looking a little worse for wear, so we removed and potted them, ready to spend a few months at Dave's allotment whilst our summer plants bloom and blossom.
We certainly got our strength workout hoofing bags of compost across the platform. Go Team!

Sadly the non forecasted rain meant i couldn't help Miss C today.
After offers of using non electric tools only were rebuffed, we agreed to get some new dates sorted with the hope of better weather

The rain held off until we'd finished registering about 700 10k runners and got them on their way.
I then helped 3k and 5k runners who needed new numbers and answered all sorts of queries ranging from technical problems to a lost pink tutu... With the upbeat music pumping out and the great atmoshphere, the rain couldn't dampen our spirits.

A big welcome to Julie on her first Goodgym task!
After instructions, we paired up with the other volunteers, ready for a visit outside Victoria Park. The task was to dig out the weeds from the periphery fence running along Anglesey Road. We started from each end and all met in the middle, filling plenty of buckets and definitely sprucing up the pavement area. The bushes poking through the fencing will also be cut back at a later date to complete the tidy up.
We made our way back to the Greenhouse dusty and ready for a cuppa in the sunshine.

I'm not sure I'll be able to write a Run Report to do this evening justice - I am so full of food and exhausted from laughing so hard!
The Golden Trainer We have a BRAND NEW CHAMPION for 2026 - congratulations to Katie CR for your amazing internal stopwatch! Katie completed the 1km time-trial just five seconds quicker than her predicted time. Andy came in second with a commendable fourteen second difference - which would have been enough to take the title last year! Everyone underestimated themselves, completing the course faster than predicted. After multiple practice attempts and talking a strong game, Sammy somehow picked up the wooden spoon tonight, although this did take the form of a fantastic Endeavour Cape. Preparation and hardwork should be rewarded, not just the result!
Litter Pick We picked up a huge amount of litter in just half an hour, the runner's high definitely have us a boost! Top finds included a whole onion and garlic, an eyelash curler and a bottle of bougie passionfruit vodka, and an empty condom packet beside a half-finished course of antibiotics. Kingston Rec seems to be the place to party these days.
Paanchi Party After burning off all that energy, we headed back to our spiritual home, Fratton Community Centre, to enjoy an evening of curry and great company. Lots of laughs were had, with lots of insights into pyramid schemes, beauty influencers, the reality of teaching and much more!
Thank you for an awesome evening guys, I loved celebrating eight years of GoodGym Portsmouth with you all!

Thanks to everyone who cleared out their bra collection for donation to the MS Therapy Centre. When i dropped our big bag of bras off it contributed to filling up their donation box. Excellent work.
They will continue to take donations so please feel free to drop off any other things you find in your Spring cleans!
Photo from Portsmouth 100 group run as i didn't think anyone would want their old underwear immortalised on the internet!
