Who You Gonna Call? GoodGym!

Wednesday 12th August

Written by Jen Stoneham

There were only a small number of us for the task this evening, and Barbara had set one of our biggest challenges yet - clear a path from the gardens to the tap!

It looked pretty daunting to start with, but after we got the strimmers up and running, and David got to grips with a new scraping tool, we were on a roll! The eclipse let us down a bit in its spectacular-ness, but we were able to see to power through to the end. Swings and roundabouts, I guess!

A successful morning of running and lion spotting , made all the better with good company, a unicorn and the Mystery Machine. 🦁🦄

We put the world to rights, met lots of other people who were lion hunting and soaked up plenty of vitamin D. 😎

Thanks team, that was fun!!

Bring on the Bingo!!

Wednesday 5th August

Written by Jen Stoneham

After meeting at FCC and the introduction of the Litter Pick Bingo cards, we split into two teams to head to Kingston Rec. Sammy, Jim and mini-GGer Betsy made up our running group, whilst the rest of the squad walked a slightly sneaky back route.

Just as we were starting our picking challenge, seven-year old Harry and his dad came over and were very excited to join in. Along with their two dogs, they came in a very commendable joint second place with Sammy. Jim found an impressive stash of onions for everyone to secure their "vegetable" - it would have been disappointing to do a pick at Kingston Rec and not find one. After a miraculous find of a chilli pepper in a bush, Betsy and Wilson were the first to call BINGO! The competition was fierce throughout, and there was much debate as to whether something counted as a "suspicious liquid", or if something was large enough to reach "Big Ticket Item" status. Honourable mentions to everyone who took part, as even the lowest score was an impressive 6/8.

Roses, brambles & 100 year old tortoises!

Wednesday 5th August

Written by Laura Dunk

Today’s Goodgym mission involved deadheading Mrs P’s roses, battling a blackberry bush and tackling weeds and dead grass.

Mrs P used to be a florist, so her garden has lots of beautiful roses and she was absolutely thrilled to see them getting some TLC.

The real highlight though, was meeting Hermin the tortoise! Apparently, he and his hiding buddy Spotty are both around 100 years old.

A bit of gardening, a very happy Mrs P and a tortoise older than most of us, a job well done!
