January may be over but that doesn't stop goodgym York from coming out in force to keep doing good!
We started by celebrating the folk who ran Dewsbury 10k and especially Amy's sub 50min PB! We also adorned John with the cape of good deeds for reaching a phenomenal 600 tasks, and congratulated Becca for getting to 50.
We were then off to Holgate Allotments where Helen already had the bonfire going. Tasks included emptying the shed, cutting back brambles, digging over the soil and keeping the fire going. it was a chilly night and we were grateful for the warmth, even if a few people got a bit singed!

We enjoyed the fire so much it was too difficult to tear people away for fitness so we did some exercises whilst enjoying the heat. There was a bit of a stand off between Ed and Alex on the arm circles, and despite Alex's pleading we had to call a draw!
We have been asked if we'd like yo return to take the shed down. Now that sounds like the perfect follow up and right up our street!

From grimy to shiny, Helen was delighted with our scrubbing. Such excellent & efficient work means the 2nd listing to complete this task can be cancelled. Thanks for the home baked goods Vicky.

on our first head torchless run of the year, we headed to Holgate Allotments.
We were met by Paul and tasked with breaking up an already flattened shed and carrying it to where it will be collected.
By using a range of techniques, including sawing and jumping, half the group completed the task, whilst the other half cut back brambles.
By the end the plot was in slightly better shape so hopefully it can now be let.
We then finished with a game of peg pinching with the prize of re usable cable ties. The enthusiasm for both the game and the ties varied but overall another good group run out.
Shout out to Jenna for the delicious baking back at base too!

We went back to Holgate Allotments to finish scrubbing the decking as it was too icy last week. We trialled washing up liquid and and bicarbonate of soda but decided the washing up liquid was more effective and found a full water but to rinse it off. We managed to clear all the bits that were iced on last time so it looked much better and was less slippy by the time we had finished.

As it was too icy to do our original deck clearing task the Holgate Allotments Association asked us to clear an empty allotment ready for letting. It was great to see lots of last minute signups to boost the numbers. We welcomed Jane to her first GoodGym session. Leanne quickly claimed her as an "friend" for her bring a newbie square on the bingo. We quickly got stuck in and moved an old frame as well as cutting back trees and brambles and clearing weeds and by the end of the session we had cleared the majority of the allotment. We covered the big pile of weeds, brambles and branches and weighed it down with a barrow and bricks before tucking into my "omlette" cake.

The combination of Lyndsey telling us it reminded her of working on a boat and Mitch's poorly eye led to a pirate themed pun being the obvious title for the task. We originally scrubbed the decks with brushes and deck cleaner and then used the brooms to wash them off. We ran out of water butt and bottled water so Claire found another water source on the site although it smelt a bit grim once we got towards the bottom of it. In the end we decided that the rain forecast for tomorrow would finish the job. Helen was pleased with our progress and asked us to come back again to finish off.
