First time for everything

Saturday 4th September 2021

Written by Latoya Stephens

This morning two Goodgymmers got up bright and early to not only help hand out for parcels at the foodbank but also complete Parkrun.

For Shani it was her first Parkrun(welcome to clan) then a nice walk to the task.

When we got there we started sorting newly donated items by dates.

Femi the centre manager already had some parcels ready for collection so, when people started arriving Latoya was given the task of handing them out to each person.

Shani continued helping Femi to sort the donations so they could be ready to packing for the next scheduled collection date.

4 Goodgymmers braved the unpredictable North London weather to help out at the Haringey Foodbank

Charlie, Juan, Kapil and Gramps busied themselves readying food parcels for Saturday's Open Session at the Selby Centre.

After around 45 minutes, Femi from the Foodbank charitably suggested we completed over 70 parcels. Gramps' estimate was a much more aggressively smaller number but who we are to complain, eh?

More fun on Saturday at Luos - join us.

Land-escapes!

Saturday 17th April 2021

Written by Nurjehan

From opposites part of London Town, two Goodgymmers were welcomes to the Haringey Foodbank by the ever so familiar Femi. James Nottingham, from GGBrent, wanted an escape from his day job of being outdoors this Saturday, and so he sailed the great distance to be socially-distanced in handing Nurjehan Khan cans of tuna, eans, and tomatoes. With none of the usual distractions (GGH's Mr Montes!), the task at hand was finishes before the hur and Femi charmingly thanked the Goodgymmers with his goodness.

In the words of Mr Montes Motivator, we were 'rockstars'.

Easter Chicks at the Foodbank

Saturday 3rd April 2021

What better way to start a Saturday than a trip to the Foodbank to help lend a hand to local legend and all-round good egg, Femi. Along with 2 GGH helpers, Femi opened his doors on Saturday to provide much needed supplies to local residents and hand out the parcels we made on Wednesday. Although we didn't have as many visitors as expected, we didn't take this as an egg-scuse to slack off, instead we hopped to it and carried on with a GGH favourite - sorting cans!

Breaking Bad(gym)

Wednesday 31st March 2021

Sugar, eh? Sweet, sweet sugar. We want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, we might offend a few of the blue-noses with our cocky stride and musky odor - oh, we'll never be the darlings of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this GGH lot?

A Sticky Situation

Erm... where were we? Oh, yes, 6 saccharine goodgymmers sweet-talked their way through a balmy Wednesday evening, helping Femi at the Haringey Foodbank.

Nurjehan, Niamh, and Kapil were tasked with divvying up a couple of hundred pounds of sugar, into portion bags to go into food parcels to be distributed on Saturday (you can help - details here).

While that was happening, Juan, Natasha, and Gramps got on with the business of getting said food parcels ready.

It was a smooth operation, reader. As usual, the banter was top notch too. Though we never quite recovered from Nurjehan's harrowing and heart-rending "hard potato sandwich" story. I'm afraid, it truly is one of those classic GGH 'you had to be there' moments.

Anyway, before you could say 'sugar crash', we were bidding farewell to Femi and setting up camp outside the Selby Centre for a photo session.

Once Gramps was satisfied we had a good group shot, we all went our merry ways, in search of chip butties in North London.

Boom!

Pack To Basics

Wednesday 17th March 2021

Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin I came to win, battle me that's a sin...

Jump around! Jump around! Jump up, jump up, and get down!

6 Goodgymmers joined Femi from the Haringey Foodbank in prepping food parcels for families to collect this weekend.

A little bit of sugar here, some cereal there, a little bit of eviscerating recording artist Sia's Chandelier here, some Gramps jumping over food parcels and falling flat on his face there - you know, your standard, run-of-the-mill foodbank/ Goodgym mash up.

As the parcels started to pile up, Gramps did the only responsible thing and started taking bets from the team to see who could guess the final number of parcels. Predictions were as follows:

John - 65 / Neil - 95 / Sam- 58 / Cathy - 40 / Natasha - 53

Stakes were high, the tension palpable, Femi couldn't handle the pressure and disappeared temporarily without a guess (it's possible he was taking the recycling out, granted) and finally, the winner was announced. We had managed to put together 62 heavy food parcels, ready for collection this weekend. John was crowned the winner.

The award ceremony was held at a grand venue, under the light of a majestic chandelier. It was grand.
