Survival off the fittest

Wednesday 1st July

Written by Kingston upon Thames runner

Tonight, four GoodGymers met to collect water from the Thames for the GoodGym Kingston flowerbeds. The water is absolutely vital for the plants especially as the heat rises. A lot of these plants were lovingly planted by Claire, so we need to look after them to provide a colourful plot in Canbury gardens. We even had some supervisors!

Fishing to water their souls!

Sunday 28th June

Written by Kingston upon Thames runner

This morning, bright and early Marie, Farzeen and myself met at the Goodgym flower bed to feed the plants and flowers to keep them thriving and a colourful display for all to admire. Whilst doing this, Marie went paddling to rescue an escaped bucket ( good job they were old trainers). Her baptism into goodgym!

The early bird catches the worm 🪱

Friday 26th June

Written by Claire Dunne

With the heat wave in full force the worms were sensibly hiding as Levita and Claire made a very early trip to the GoodGym flowerbed to gather water from the river and give the plants a good drink.

They had survived the blistering heat well but needed a drink as did we after two trips to the river pulling out buckets of water and pushing the wheel barrows full of water up the hill.

Hopefully the rain will come again soon.

🌻Flower Power🌻

Saturday 20th June

Written by Claire Dunne

On a warm Saturday morning 4 GoodGymers arrived at the GoodGym flowerbed in Canbury gardens to give it a little tidy and then plant lots of plants Claire had grown. It was good to see the plants form the previous planting session still surviving the hot weather and lots of colour already.

After clearing weeds and leaves Claire laid out the plants with taller ones towards the back and every one dug holes and planted them nice and deeply. Emily and Adam then headed to the river for water to water them in. After lots of watering by Jeanna and a few trips to the river everything had received a good drink.

Lets hope the plants survive the heat wave and bring lots of colour to the flowerbed.

🌻Planting Perfection 🌻

Saturday 30th May

Written by Claire Dunne

On a very hot Saturday morning in Canbury Gardens Laura and Claire were joined by new GoodGymer Lola on her first mission and Claire's Dad to provide some gardening advice.

Armed with weeders and forks we tackled the weeds and brambles poking though the plants and gave the laurel a trim. Having completed the less exciting weeding task it was planting time. Claire laid out the plants she had grown with the taller ones towards the back and everyone dug nice deep holes and popped them in the soil.

With the hot weather the flowerbed was in desperate need of a drink so we headed off to he river for the main work out. Buckets were launched into the river to fill up the wheelbarrows and then push them up to the flower bed. 3 trips and some damp feet that quickly dried in the sun the plants were well watered.

Lets hope the new additions like their new home and add to the lovely colours in the flowerbed for all to enjoy and we hope to see Lola at her next GoodGym mission soon.

No Mulch, No Problem

Saturday 25th April

Written by Claire Dunne

On a lovely sunny Saturday morning 3 GoodGymers arrive bright and early in Canbury Gardens to spread some mulch on the GoodGym flowerbed. Mulch to our surprise it had vanished leaving the remnants in its place. Undeterred the hour was well spent doing some other much needed tasks including dead heading the tulips and daffodils, weeding and watering. Emily fought with the weeds and brambles at the back of the bed whilst Saber made numerous trips to the river for wheelbarrows full of water to make sure every plant was well watered. Claire meanwhile gave the bed a good weed and tidy.

It was lovely to have one lady come over and say how much she enjoyed looking at the the flowerbed, especially all the tulips.

Hopefully we can get it just as colorful for the Summer.
