Thirsty plot

Kingston upon Thames Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner

This morning we met to water the plot as still not enough rain has fallen to quest their thirst. A good workout in the morning to awakening the body. Plus you get to see friends, bonus. Cheers to the gentleman's that interrupted their rowing session to rescue the bucket that got away.

Roll out the Barrel🛢️ 💦

Kingston upon Thames Report written by Claire Dunne

A familiar story as GoodGym Kingston headed to Canbury Gardens but this time for a double mission. Not one but two lots of watering to do. Split into two teams Sabir, Emily and Marie filled up the barrels from the river to water the Community Garden and ensure a water stock for the next shift.

Meanwhile over at the GoodGym flowerbed Anna, Matt and Claire planted a few plants that were getting far too big for Claire’s garden. Having popped some stakes in to keep them standing tall multiple trips to the river took place to gather lots of water so that the plants could all be fed and watered.

Having completed the planting and watering Marie and Matt fixed the wheel barrow and it was time to reward ourselves with a few fresh tomatoes 🍅 and beans 🫘 from the community garden.

Helping out at Kingston Pantry

Kingston upon Thames Report written by Rachel White

We had a great deep cleaning session at Kingston Pantry last night. They do great work helping provide food for people in need and it's not always possible to do a deep clean when they are open in the day and that's where we stepped in to help!

We ran, walked and cycled to Tolworth Recreation Centre and got to work. Sabir, Tom, Claire, Jonathan, Marcos, Emily and Farzeen grabbed the cleaning products and systematically worked down the shelves moving products and then giving the shelves some good ole elbow grease. Dave and Marie did the same in the storage area.

Time really flew and soon it was time to get the hoover out to get rid of all the crumbs and then give it a once over with the mop.

Job well done, Kingston! We'll be back in three months for the next deep clean.

I want to break free!

Kingston upon Thames Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner

Bright and early we met at the Thames to revive the plants in the Gg plot. Much laughter was had, also problems solved as they arose. At goodgym no task is complete without a challenge, it's what we expect and keeps us on our toes.

Sunny Sunday Swannie

Kingston upon Thames Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner

This morning we convined at the riverside to help this colourful plot again get its life giving water to revive their spirits so they will continue to provide a colourful backdrop in the park to lift others and promote wellbeing.

The swans appeared on the chance we were hiding food, but left disappointed when they realised we were only there to steal their water.

Dustbusters 🧹🧽🧼

Kingston upon Thames Report written by JOHN BLON (He/Him)

On 4 August, seven GoodGymers came together for a one-hour mission at Hestia Good Energy Club, a mental health service supporting the Kingston community. Although it was only an hour-long session, we had a huge area to tackle, around a third of the size of a football pitch! Claire led the run to Hestia, while the rest of the team made their way directly to the task. On arrival, we received a warm welcome from John at Hestia, who had thoughtfully provided Diet Coke, biscuits and crisps to keep everyone refreshed before we got started. After a quick break, it was time to get down to business. Armed with all-purpose spray as our "weapon" and cleaning wipes as our "shield", everyone quickly found their role. Marie and Laura took charge of the vacuum cleaners, working their way across the extensive floors, while Luke, Claire, John, Tom and Sabir tackled tables, chairs, window sills and every surface that needed a deep clean. With music playing in the background, the atmosphere was relaxed and upbeat, making the hard work fly by. It was brilliant to see the teamwork in action, with everyone coordinating seamlessly and helping wherever needed. Before long, the entire service had been transformed, with every corner left sparkling clean, all within the hour. John from Hestia thanked the team for all their hard work and told us how much the clean would benefit the members who use the service. We rounded off the evening with a group photo in front of a fantastic 3D beach mural created by the Good Energy Club members. A perfect backdrop to celebrate another successful community task. A fantastic one-hour session, great teamwork and another local community space left cleaner, brighter and ready to welcome the people who rely on it.
